Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska talk about meeting on the set of Charlie’s Angels, their awkward first interactions, and writer/director Elizabeth Banks reveals why she chose them for the movie. Stewart was "super amped and kind of nervous" to meet her Charlie's Angels co-stars. "I was like, 'I need to love these girls because I'm a terrible liar,'" she said. So after peering out her trailer window, Stewart spotted Scott and decided to introduce herself. "I did this thing that I was really embarrassed about," the Twilight star admitted. "I thought maybe I lost her before I could even like make an impression." So, what exactly did she do? Apparently, the Aladdin actress "did something" that inspired Stewart to lightly stroke Scott's chin. "The thing is: Now I know Kristen, it makes perfect sense," Scott said, acknowledging that Stewart was nervous and that the gesture was actually "super cute." Their co-star and third Angel Ella Balinska, however, didn't get the same greeting. "I appeared and was like, 'OK, I've got four months of this now,'" she said.

It’s a term that, despite starting with some pure intentions, has become a bit of a dirty word in the world of entertainment: reboot. Some see it as a dark and horrific prospect when it comes to a property like Charlie’s Angels. But as far as director Elizabeth Banks is concerned, if you have the right approach, a reboot can be a wonderful thing. More specifically, Banks’ thoughts on that very subject are the following: No, not if you make it fresh, fun and interesting. I don't think anyone's mad that Black Panther happened despite the fact that Black Panther was a comic book that already existed. And I don't think when people see this movie, which is a real continuation of a story that, like I said, just has really great DNA built into it already, my hope is that people, especially new audiences — the last film was 17 years ago — so young women get their own versions of stories all the time anyway. It's the next generation's turn to have Angels. In her remarks above to THR, Elizabeth Banks hits upon, quite possibly, one of the best reasons a proper reboot should exist. With her new chapter in Charlie’s Angels history, Banks is carrying the torch from the ‘00s version with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore to her new lineup of Ella Balinska, Kristen Stewart and Naomi Scott to run with.

Speaking after receiving her Pioneer of the Year honour from the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation earlier this week, Banks talked about a scene involving tampons. She also explained the importance of being able to talk about tampons on the stage she was standing on. “I didn’t start directing movies because I think I am the greatest director in the world. I did it because I had something I want to say,” she said, accepting the award that has never been won by a woman before. “I want to change the world, and so in thinking about my status, bestowed just now by three Angels, as an industry ‘pioneer’, I wanted to say something tonight that has never been said on this stage, at this forum. I wanted to do what is a staple of my work.” Banks continued: “I wanted to say something entertaining for all, but especially meaningful to women and girls, something that I can pretty much guarantee (past honourees) Darryl F. Zanuck and Jim Gianopulos have never said. “I wanted to say tampon. TAMPON. Tampon. I can only say it is probably the fear of every man in this room that you give a woman a microphone - it is all tampon talk all the time.” Banks explained that she shouted tampon to help eradicate the stigma surrounding periods and sanitary products. She also revealed that Sony never once asked her to take out the scene in the film. She finished the speech with a powerful ending, saying: “I just wanted to remind you why you gave me this Pioneer Award here tonight. It is because everything you can do, I can do bleeding.”

Meanwhile, Scott wore a mixed-material green pantsuit with metallic thin-strap sandals. http://instagram.com/p/B25cM3upoWw Banks, who plays Bosley in this iteration of the “Charlie’s Angels” storyline, sat on the right joining the three angels; she donned a baby blue satin top with black pants and black peep-toe high heels.

Elizabeth Banks has become the first female director to be honored by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. Busy Phillips hosted the evening while the new Charlie’s Angels trio were also on hand. Deadline has some highlights of the speech as well as the evening in general. The first honor was awarded back in 1947. It’s currently 2019. How is it that they never got around to honoring another female filmmaker?!? There have been plenty around. Hell, look at the Oscars and how much work there is to do with the Academy. That’s another conversation in and of its own right. Still, I can’t get over the fact that it has taken the foundation almost eighty years to honor a female director. To be fair, she’s not the first woman to be honored by the foundation. Going over their list of honorees, there are a few: Cheryl Boone Isaacs (2017), Donna Langley (2016), Kathleen Kennedy (2013), and Sherry Lansing (1996). With Banks, this makes five woman honored since the first dinner in 1947.
