Greta Thunberg apologized on Saturday for a comment that some interpreted as a threat of violence against politicians who ignore climate change. Thunberg said she was merely translating a Swedish expression into English and apologized for the way her comments may have come off.
"Yesterday I said we must hold our leaders accountable and unfortunately said 'put them against the wall,'" the 16-year-old climate activist tweeted on Saturday. "That's Swenglish: 'att ställa någon mot väggen' (to put someone against the wall) means to hold someone accountable."
"That's what happens when you improvise speeches in a second language," the Swede continued. "But of course I apologize if anyone misunderstood this. I can not enough express the fact that I — as well as the entire school strike movement — are against any possible form of violence. It goes without saying but I say it anyway."

A German railway company has taken back an apology they made to Greta Thunberg after they realized the climate activist wasn’t schlepping it on the train’s floor but instead was treated “friendly” in first class.
The rail company was responding to an image Thunberg tweeted of herself sitting amid bags and suitcases on the floor of what she called “overcrowded trains through Germany.”
The company, Deutsche Bahn, initially released a statement that said they “continue working hard on getting more trains, connections and seats.”
They also thanked Thunberg for supporting the company’s battle against climate change and pointed out that the train she used had been running 100 percent on eco-friendly electricity.
But upon reflection, Deutsche Bahn said Thunberg’s “overcrowded” claims were just hot air.
The rail company claimed the teenager had a seat in first class between Kassel and Hamburg and that other members of her team were already sitting in first class from Frankfurt onwards.
“It would have been even nicer if you had also reported how friendly and competently our team served you at your seat in first class,” the company added.

SophosLabs has a seen a variety of Christmas-time spam campaigns that shamlessly hitch a ride on the coat-tails of climate activist Greta Thunberg. The malware-spreading spams arrive with subject lines such as… Please help save the planet Greta Friends help Support Greta Thunberg - Time Person of the Year 2019 Greta Thunberg the biggest demonstration Demonstration 2019 …and they urge you to join an upcoming demonstration. The catch, however, is that the time and place of the alleged demonstration aren’t in the body of the email itself. To find out more, you need to open a Word document that’s either linked to in the email, or attached to it: MERRY CHRISTMAS You can spend Christmas Eve looking for gifts for children. They will tell you Thank you only that day. But the children will thank you all their lives if you come out for the biggest demonstration in protest against the inaction of the government in connection with the climate crisis. Support Greta Thunberg - Time Person of the Year 2019 I invite you. Time and address are attached in the attached file. FORWARD this letter to all colleagues, friends and relatives RIGHT NOW, until you forget! Many thanks.

The Swedish climate activist made the comment during an interview on BBC Radio 4 on Monday morning, where she had been invited to guest-edit the programme.
Thunberg, 16, was asked what she would have said to the leader who pulled the US – one of the world’s leading carbon emitters – out of the Paris climate accord, and who has taken radical steps to undo decades-old US pollution standards.
She said: “Honestly, I don’t think I would have said anything. Because obviously he’s not listening to scientists and experts, so why would he listen to me?”
She added: “So I probably wouldn’t have said anything, I wouldn’t have wasted my time.”
Thunberg’s comments came several weeks after Trump attacked her for being named Time magazine’s person of the year.
“So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!” Trump tweeted at the time.

British comedian Rosie Jones has provoked a mass clutching of pearls on Twitter after she took aim at media’s most sacred cow, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, with an X-rated joke during a TV show. Appearing on Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’ on New Year’s Eve, Jones was asked what she thought of the 16-year-old campaigner, who was named Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ for 2019. “I think Greta’s amazing and what she’s doing is brilliant,” the disabled comedian said. “But don’t do it now.”
