Mariah Carey has reportedly started divorce proceedings against her husband-of-six years Nick Cannon. The couple have been surrounded by split rumours for some months now, and it seems that the We Belong Together singer is taking the lead in ending their relationship. "Mariah has started the divorce process," an insider told E! News. "She's getting all her ducks in a row." "Nick recently asked if she wanted to bring in a marriage counsellor," the source added, but Mariah is said to have become more upset after Nick aired their marriage troubles. The pair were reportedly working on a joint statement when Nick, 33, allegedly let slip that he and Mariah, 44, had been living in separate homes for months while their £6million New York pad underwent renovation. The rapper and record producer, who denied making the comments, unleashed a series of Twitter posts in which he asked for privacy and spoke praises of the mother of his three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. "I love @mariahcarey and that will never change!!!" wrote Nick on Wednesday, followed by, "I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @mariahcarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly...". "What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @mariahcarey. I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children...," he added. The America's Got Talent host quickly deleted his approximately 20 posts, with the last dating from the start of July.

All Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is to take back her disastrous performance at Rockefeller Center. The pop star performed at the annual tree lighting ceremony on Thursday in New York, but the angelic-voiced diva was off her game, earning jeers from viewers. The telecast kicked off with Carey’s performance of her popular holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Dressed in a cleavage-baring red gown and joined by pint-sized backup dancers, the star couldn’t quite reach the high notes and at times seemed to struggle with her breathing. She also had issues with her coat, when she had difficulties taking it off while performing and it hung loosely from her arm until it fell on the ground. After her performance, she kicked it away. Social media lit up with reactions to Carey’s performance, with some fans expressing concerns but most viewers mocking her mediocre vocals. Carey performed live at the event after bailing on a pre-taped performance for the telecast scheduled to take place Tuesday. Fans waited for the “Hero” singer for three hours before the show’s producers pulled the plug on the segment. The star was reportedly delayed from attending because she was speaking with her lawyers about her impending divorce from Nick Cannon. After the pre-tape was canceled, Carey obliged to sing live during the tree-lighting event instead and apologized to fans on Twitter for failing to show up to tape the segment.

Songbird Mariah Carey may join other divas Britney Spears and Celine Dion and get her own Vegas residency. Page Six reports the singer is about to sign a deal with Caesars Palace. Sources say it could be worth more than Spears' two-year, $30 million contract, and that Carey could start performing before the end of 2015. In other Mariah Carey news, recent reports also say she just dropped $1.8 million on a 1,200-square-foot mobile home. According to New York Post's Page Six, the Grammy-winning diva is preparing to follow in the footsteps of Celine Dion after bagging multimillion dollar residency deal at Caesars Palace. The newspaper reports that the Hero hitmaker is in negotiations with bosses at the Las Vegas hotspot for a performing stint. Although her signing fee has not be disclosed , it is believed that she stands to earn more than the $30 million Britney Spears is receiving for her two-year residency. However, a source suggested Carey may have reservations about the deal. "Mariah doesn't want to go to Vegas. She put out feelers to the Borgata in Atlantic City and the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut about a mini residency," the source said. "She wants a stable, high-paying gig that will keep her close to her New York home. Mariah is crossing her fingers that she can figure out a way to make money on her own turf." Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart and Celine Dion are just a few of the names Caesars Palace resort has hosted. If the deal goes through it could be the fresh start 45-year-old Carey needs following her public split from husband Nick Cannon. In August, the couple confirmed that they were living apart after six years of marriage. Weeks later Cannon replaced his enormous 'Mariah' tattoo with a giant Jesus inking. His new tattoo shows Jesus on the cross with angel wings coming off the end. But despite their differences the former lovebirds are staying cordial for the sake of their three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. "Mariah had a heartfelt conversation with Nick last week and they decided that they needed to put their feelings aside for the twins," an insider recently told Closer magazine.

While Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon continue to work out their divorce, she has been on full mommy duty. Carey was spotted with their twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe, who will be 4 in April, at Billy Beez kids playhouse at the Palisades Mall Saturday. A witness said Mariah wore sunglasses, tight pants, a leather jacket and heels, and was accompanied by two bodyguards and an assistant. “But she didn’t ask for a private area for her kids to play. She was watching them go down the slides.” Cannon filed for divorce on Dec. 12, months after they separated.
