Two-time Canadian figure skating champion Kaetlyn Osmond suffered a foot injury during a routine choreography session in Edmonton on Thursday, Skate Canada corporate communications director Barb MacDonald confirmed to CBC News. It’s unclear how long Osmond, 18, will be sidelined or the severity of her injury. MacDonald said Osmond was evaluated by the Skate Canada medical team. But the Canadian champion’s sister, Natasha Osmond, revealed on Facebook that her sibling was scheduled to have surgery Friday. “To all Kaetlyn’s family, friend and fans. She had an accident on the ice and unfortunately the results mean surgery today. She is sad to not to be able to skate for a while but is in good spirits and is hoping for a speedy recovery." But MacDonald wouldn’t confirm the surgery, saying only Osmond is “undergoing additional assessment." MacDonald said she expects to release and update on Osmond’s condition Monday. Osmond, who was born in Marystown, N.L., but now resides in Sherwood Park, Alta., contributed to Canada's silver medal in the figure skating team event at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She finished 13th in the women's competition.

20 - 21 september 2014, @arenaverona. @mskostner will be the star of @intimissimi OPOI. Ice has never been so hot. Olympic bronze medalist figure skater Carolina Kostner has been called for hearing for a second time by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) during an investigation into doping by an ex-boyfriend, Olympic champion race walker Alex Schwazer. The hearing is Friday, CONI said. Kostner’s agent said she will attend, according to The Associated Press. Kostner did not show up for an initial hearing last Friday concerning the investigation. Her lawyer e-mailed before the hearing to say Kostner would skip it. The 2008 Olympic champion Schwazer tested positive for EPO in 2012, was excluded from the London Olympics and banned for four years. Kostner was to be asked about potentially being complicit in Schwazer’s doping when they were together. Kostner’s lawyer e-mailed before the hearing to say Kostner would skip it. Hayleigh Abbott and her parents claim she was kicked out of an elite figure skating program after speaking out about being bullied by another student. “I feel really upset because I thought I could go somewhere in skating and I pretty much didn’t think I would stop because of someone bullying me,” said Hayleigh. At just 12-years-old, she’s already Quebec’s 2014 Junior Champion. “I came in first for the long program so I was pretty proud of that,” she told Global News, while showing off her pile of medals. The 12-year-old had a promising future as a figure skater until her coach allegedly kicked her out of the program after she reported repeated bullying by an older male student. According to Hayleigh, the verbal insults quickly escalated to physical intimidation. “He would cut me off right before I would jump and he would speed at me really quickly and almost hit me. When I would fall he would just charge at me.” said Hayleigh. Her parents began to fear for her safety but despite several complaints to the coach, Hayleigh’s family insists nothing was done. “Her coach Eric Therrien told me this boy had an anger management problem,” said Ruffino. “He had done it to two other children and he asked me to let him handle it and that was at the end of June.” The next morning, Hayleigh’s parents were told she was expelled from the CPA Deux Rives figure skating club and could no longer be a part of the elite skating program at École secondaire Des Sources. “He was no longer able to teach my daughter, she was no longer welcome to skate at sports-étude and she was no longer able to skate at that club” said Ruffino. Skate Canada has launched a full investigation and a spokesperson insists they are taking the complaint very seriously. While our request for an interview was denied, a statement released to Global News reads: The Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board is also investigating and plans to meet with the club and coach in the coming days.

Former figure skating world champion Carolina Kostner claimed she had nothing to do with doping by her former boyfriend and Olympic race walking gold medalist Alex Schwazer during an exhausting four-hour hearing Friday. "Carolina cleared up all the doubts there were to clear up and I think the anti-doping prosecutor was very satisfied on all accounts," said Giovanni Fontana, Kostner's lawyer. "She didn't cover up anything for anyone. Carolina is extraneous from the entire case." Kostner, who was also accompanied by another lawyer and her manager to the hearing inside the Stadio Olimpico offices, exited by a backdoor and did not speak with reporters. Prosecutors believe coaches and doctors knew that Schwazer was doping long before he tested positive, possibly dating to Beijing. He was banned by CONI for 3 1/2 years in April 2013. Kostner risks a ban of up to four years from all sports activities in Italy and abroad for aiding and failing to report Schwazer's doping. A ban would also prevent her from appearing in non-competitive events or shows worldwide that are supported by the International Skating Union, CONI said. The 27-year-old Kostner has also won two silvers and three bronzes at the worlds, and is a five-time European champion. It remains unclear if she could be banned retroactively and be stripped of medals. "Kostner has absolutely nothing to do with doping," Fontana said. "It's not like she won her medals because she told the anti-doping inspectors that Schwazer was not home that day." Schwazer failed an out-of-competition test before arriving in London and was removed from Italy's team before competing. He admitted using the blood-boosting hormone EPO, and said he was quitting the sport. Kostner has acknowledged accompanying Schwazer for a visit to Ferrari's mobile office in 2010, although she maintains that she did not know he doped. "That was an entirely sporadic instance," Fontana said. "She saw him only once and she didn't even know his name was Dr. Michele Ferrari. She thought he was a physical trainer because they talked about training data and stuff like that." However, recently published reports of Kostner's testimony to Bolzano prosecutors showed she allegedly admitted to lying to inspectors from the World Anti-Doping Agency who came to her home in Germany looking for Schwazer on July 29, 2012 — days before Schwazer flew to London for the Olympics. Fontana said Kostner told inspectors Schwazer wasn't home to respect his privacy, because on his WADA whereabouts form for that day he had listed that he would available in Italy at a different time.
