Nicki Minaj rapped about shortbread. Ariana Grande let her hair down. Oh, and all of your favorite artists performed. We must be talking about the MTV Europe Music Awards, which celebrated its 20th anniversary Sunday with a Scottish-accented show in Glasgow.
Grande capped a breakthrough year with two trophies at the EMAs. Grande was named best female artist and also took the best-single prize for "Problem," one of a string of hits she's had this year. The 21-year-old singer said she was doubly grateful to the EMAs – meeting Iggy Azalea at last year's awards show led directly to working with the Australian rapper on "Problem."
"This is absolutely crazy," Grande said after her second win of the night. It was a happy ending for a performer who admitted she was too excited to sleep the night before the ceremony and that she was shaking after walking past a gaggle of photographers on the red carpet.
Ariana Grande only got to sit down for a second at the 2014 MTV EMA, poor girl. Right after she finished performing “Problem” and “Break Free” at the EMA on Sunday, Nov. 9, a shocked Ari had to rush back on stage to accept the Best Song EMA for “Problem.” And she clearly left her chill behind.
Ariana could hardly catch her breath — or find her chill (which may have gone missing while she was floating high above the EMA stage) — as she climbed up to the microphone in her silver spacesuit.
She walked away with the Best Newcomer trophy at the Bambi Awards. And Ariana Grande was certainly celebrating when she performed live for the star-studded audience on Thursday night, beholding her fawn-shaped award inside Berlin's Stage Theatre. Performing in a gem leotard with just a sheer half-skirt overlay, the 21-year-old smiled all the way through her acceptance after being surprised with the trophy on stage.
Ariana styled her hair into a signature high ponytail after admitting that leaving her hair down made her feel 'naked' at this weekend's MTV EMAs. The singer had stolen the show from Nicki Minaj in Glasgow on Sunday night before jetting to Germany to be honoured at the prestigious 66th annual awards ceremony that saw the Prince and Princess of Denmark attend.
Ariana Grande may be a mega pop sensation, but in a behind-the-scenes video from her cover shoot for the December issue of InStyle (on newsstands Friday, Nov. 14), the singer reveals just how normal the items she totes around in her purse are, whether she’s on tour or at a photoshoot.
So, what’s in the 21-year-old’s chic bag? Aside from the essentials—which include her wallet, lip balm, books, and “a pair of glasses or two because I can’t see anything,”—Grande says she fills her purse with perfumes. “I’m a fragrance girl,” Grande reveals in the video above. “I love perfumes, body sprays; I love lotions that smell really good. I sort of, like, collect perfumes and everything, so its hard for me to pinpoint my favorite ones, but I think my top are Flowerbomb, the Trish McEvoy Sexy No. 9 — I love that, the blackberry and vanilla one — there’s a Givenchy one that I love, I think its called Hot Couture. I love the Victoria’s Secret body sprays, I think they smell really sweet and delicious.”
While luscious scents may be her favorite beauty buy, she also takes great care to keep her famous face glowing. “I use Dr. Lancer’s products. He’s a dermatologist in L.A. and his products are really, really great,” she says. “They make your skin so soft and so clean, and I use it every morning and every night. I try not to fall asleep with my makeup on ever, but I fail all the time, I think everybody does.”
