Carly Rae Jepsen paired up with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the 2016 Polaris Music Prize gala, and that creative collaboration has now spawned an entire show of its own. The pop singer and esteemed ensemble have announced a one-night-only concert in conjunction with the Canada 150 celebrations, and it will come to life on stage at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on June 17. The show will feature Jepsen's hits backed by the full orchestra (led by conductor Lucas Waldin), as well as intimate numbers featuring guitar and a string quartet.

Carly Rae Jepsen had no idea of the ineffable, bouncy power of “Call Me Maybe” when she first recorded the song. “I’d be lying to say that I knew the song was going to be a career-changer for me,” the singer told Billboard (who voted “Hey I just met you/And this is crazy/So here’s my number/So call me maybe” the century‘s best chorus) in an interview, though she did notice that people seemed to react to it more than her other songs. Once the song did become the sugary pop-hit we all know and adore, she had a very different fear. “There’s this terrifying feeling of, ‘Oh god, what if that’s the only music that I create?” she explained, “‘What if it defines the genre of what I do from now on?’”

Carly Rae Jepsen has given an update on her next album, saying she is experimenting with different sounds as she writes the follow up to 2015's Emotion. Back in May Jepsen tweeted that she had written 50 songs for her new record. Speaking to Elite Daily, Jepsen said she has been working with producer Patrik Berger on some tracks. "I can still... beat what I've got and experiment in different places without any of the pressure," she said of the new music. "I'm really looking forward to getting it out there soon. Right now, it's just about being a weird little experiment."
