"You already know..." Ice Cube said before announcing that Taylor Swift had won Video of the Year for "Bad Blood," and of course, we already did. The inevitable march to victory couldn't be stopped. With nearly 500 million views, insane production values, and 18 ultra-famous co-stars, "Bad Blood" became a cultural phenomenon. Although, anecdotally, one that it didn't actually seem like anyone liked.
Most of Swift's video cast mates (often cringingly referred to as her "squad") joined her on stage to accept the award, including Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Hailee Steinfeld, Serayah McNeill, Gigi Hadid, Mariska Hargitay, and Selena Gomez, and smiled gratefully while she expressed the absolute joy of living "in 2015, in a world where boys can play princesses and girls can play soldiers."
The comment was in response to recent criticism surrounding the video — most notably that it purportedly promotes female solidarity and strength but in fact depicts a group of women teaming up against one ostracized woman (Katy Perry, as all the evidence implies).
The "Bad Blood" singer, who scooped the Best Video and Best Female Video awards at the Sunday, Aug. 30, awards show, headed down to the Republic Records afterparty with pals Martha Hunt, Lily Aldridge, Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld, and Serayah McNeill.
And after skipping the red carpet, the posse made their way to their own VIP area right behind a DJ booth where Joe Jonas was DJing. "She and her crew were sitting on the top of the booth cushions, dancing away," a fellow party guest told Us Weekly. "Taylor was drinking champagne and [there were] bottles of champagne all over the booth."
The girl group went wild to a few of the tracks played by Jonas (Gomez, in particular, put her hands in the air for "My Way" by Fetty Wap, while Swift sexily danced with her head in McNeill's lap during Ginuwine's "Pony"). But it was Swift's own music that really made her posse go wild! When Jonas played the 25-year-old's hit track "Bad Blood," her booth went totally crazy.
Did one Taylor Swift or one of her squad members fart while they were premiering her ‘Wildest Dreams’ video at the VMAs on Aug. 31? Watch this video and let us know if you think the suspicious sound is one of the ladies passing gas!
The moment in question occurs toward the end of the clip, when the “Bad Blood” singer — whose album, 1989, you can buy here — is saying, “Here’s the video for “Wildest Dreams!”‘ At the exact moment, she also happens to crouch down, and it does sound suspiciously like she, or someone around her, had accidentally let loose.
But MTV released a statement after all the buzz, and revealed that the noise wasn’t a bodily function. “MTV can confirm that the sound heard in the moment Taylor Swift introduced her new music video, “Wildest Dreams,” was isolated to a production microphone,” the network said. “There was absolutely no possibility of it being Taylor or anyone in her party’s microphones picking up ambient sounds.”
, well, that’s one way to word it! The sound did appear to pop up way too quickly, and with a few of the girls, plus the red carpet hosts, holding microphones, it’s definitely possible that there was some sort of electronic issue that caused the unfortunate noise.
Taylor Swift added another VMA to her mantel by winning best female video for her hit song "Blank Space" at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards.
Swift won the award over Nicki Minaj, Sia, Ellie Goulding, and Beyoncé. Back in 2009, Kanye West memorably interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech at the VMAs after she beat Beyoncé in the video category. This year, in an effort to behave, West reacted hilariously by pretending to go to sleep while Swift accepted her award. After pretending to fall asleep, West then acted as if he would rush the stage yet again, but this time he was joking:
Swift told Vanity Fair in September that her and West's relationship was mended with the help of hip-hop mogul Jay Z. "I feel like I wasn't ready to be friends with him until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn't ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me — so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time," Swift said.
After a summer of Taylor Swift’s endless roll call of guest stars on her 1989 tour, it was her turn to make a megawatt cameo at the 2015 VMAs on Sunday night. Nicki Minaj performed “Trini Dem Girls” before calling Swift out as her guest for “The Night Is Still Young.”
They closed out the set with a brief bit of Swift’s aptly-named song “Bad Blood.” Most people are wondering if this will put an end to whispers of an alleged feud between Swift and Minaj sparked by some heated Twitter exchanges right after the VMA nominations were announced. Both women have since made nice with their tweets, but cleverly used this public forum to put any rumors to rest. They even hugged it out.
Minaj and Swift got into a debate on Twitter after Minaj was snubbed by the VMAs earlier this summer. “If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, ‘Anaconda’ would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” Minaj wrote on Twitter. “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination […] If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” She also tweeted: “Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.”
At last weekend’s Video Music Awards, Kanye West, dressed like he’d jogged straight out of the pages of a dystopian Y.A. novel, announced his plans to run for president of the United States in 2020. Soon thereafter, we gave you a quick rundown of the parties already profiting off of/angling for inclusion in ‘Ye’s rambling bid, including, but not limited to, the Kardashians, an enterprising young #Millennial who eats domain names for breakfast, and Democrats in general. Days have since passed, as they are wont to do, meaning celebrities and politicians alike have had ample time to consider how they might join West’s completely non-existent campaign for an office that he wouldn’t even hold for five years.
Taylor Swift, of course. You might remember Swift from that time she evicted Sir Ian McKellen or that time, at a V.M.A. ceremony long ago, she watched as Kanye West ran up on the stage, tore the mic from her hands, told her Beyoncé should have won her award, and spawned a great many of 2009‘s hottest takes. West later befriended Swift because Jay Z told him to, and at last Sunday’s awards show, the singer presented him with the Video Vanguard Award. By Friday, according to Swift’s Instagram, West had sent her the massive bouquet of white roses seen here.
Swift, clearly ecstatic about the floral missive, took the opportunity to announce her candidacy for vice president, pairing her photo of the bouquet with the hashtag #KanTay2020, which is both a portmanteau of Kanye and Taylor and almost something in Pig Latin.
