Meanwhile a selection of her rivals were up early to set out their stalls on the Sunday political shows. Many of them emphasised their firm intention to cut taxes - a marked contrast to the pitch from former Chancellor and current front-runner Rishi Sunak.

Boris Johnson will not publicly endorse his preferred successor as Tory leader as he said it could “damage” their chances of winning the contest.
There are currently 11 candidates in the race to replace Mr Johnson in No 10 after he announced his resignation last week.
Mr Johnson said this morning during a visit to the Francis Crick Institute in central London that he will not be offering his support publicly to any of the contenders.

The first thing to say about Rishi Sunak's leadership campaign launch is just how noisy it was. This is a big campaign, with lots of prominent supporters and the launch contrasted fairly markedly with the scale of the other leadership events we have seen so far.

Eight candidates for Tory leadership contest nominated 3,847 views Jul 13, 2022 Eight candidates have made it through to the first stage of the Tory leadership contest - actually getting onto the ballot.
Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss have already attracted some big name support, while another big name, former health secretary Sajid Javid, is no longer in the running.
The first hustings are being held in parliament tonight, with candidates given 12 minutes each to put their case, before MPs take part in the first round of voting tomorrow afternoon.

Suella Braverman has been knocked out of the Conservative leadership race, leaving five candidates to head into the next round.
She came in last place with 27 votes meaning that she is eliminated before the rivals take part in the live television debates, the first of which is scheduled for tomorrow evening on Channel 4.
The final two candidates are due to be selected on Wednesday night, leaving Boris Johnson free to have a final Prime Minister’s Questions.
