Alex Morgan is due to give birth to her first child (a daughter!) this month, and this week she revealed one of the things keeping her "sane, fit, and feeling good": workouts in her garage gym. Morgan shared a snippet of one workout, which involved lunges, goblet squats, and resistance band deadlifts and back exercises. Clearly she's keeping up her modified training even with gyms closed and a daughter on the way, which is what you do when you're aiming to make the USWNT roster for the Olympics (now postponed a year). Why take on that unique and challenging journey? http://instagram.com/p/B-vj2A2FEBb Beyond her own personal goals, Morgan told Glamour, "I want women to feel like they don't have to choose one or the other. The more female athletes that are moms in their career, the better — from Allyson Felix, to Serena Williams, to my teammate Sydney Leroux." http://instagram.com/p/B-0ZHEnlc63 An inspiration on and off the field, a two-time World Cup champ, and now our new motivation for our at-home workouts. Check out Morgan's routine above.

World Cup winner Alex Morgan has given birth to her first child -- after a little bit of extra time. The American soccer superstar announced the birth of her daughter, Charlie Elena Carrasco, Saturday via social media. Charlie was born on May 7 at 11:30 a.m., coming in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces. http://instagram.com/p/B_-iCSAFjPU "She made us wait longer than expected, but I should have known she would do it her way and her way only. My super moon baby," Morgan wrote in an Instagram post.

Morgan joined Spurs from Orlando Pride in September and made five appearances, scoring twice in the Women's Super League (WSL). The 31-year-old, who has 170 caps for the USA and is a two-time Women's World Cup winner, used her time at Spurs to regain match fitness after giving birth in May. Morgan told Tottenham's website: "I will be forever grateful to the club, my team-mates and Spurs supporters for taking such good care of me and my family. "From the moment I arrived in London, I realised I was part of a first-class organisation, one that helped provide me the opportunity to immerse myself back into the game I love. Morgan has scored two WSL goals during her time with Spurs "Thank you to everyone who helped make this chapter in my soccer journey so special." Morgan will leave Spurs at the halfway stage of the WSL season - they are currently eighth in the 12-team division, having played nine times.

Alex Morgan’s loan stint at Tottenham Hotspur Women was more about fitness than a real desire to make Spurs into WSL contenders. She leaves the club and returns to the Orlando Pride in the NWSL with only a handful of appearances in three months of training and two goals, both from the penalty spot.
However, it appears she’s left a more lasting legacy behind the scenes. It seems she’s the reason why Spurs Women are now training full time at Tottenham’s top of the line training facility.
The rumor, which we first saw on Reddit, was that Morgan arrived and saw that Spurs were training at The Hive, the stadium in Edgware where they play their home matches, instead of the sparkling new and high tech training facility that Morgan visited a couple of years ago with the US Women’s National Team ahead of the World Cup. The story goes that she immediately went to Daniel Levy and threatened to expose this fact to her millions of social media followers unless the club allowed the Women to train at Hotspur Way full time, and Levy relented.
It seemed a little fishy at the time, one of those “wow that’s cool if true” kinds of things.
But then this floated across my timeline yesterday. In an article posted on Soccer America, OL Reign player Jess Fishlock, herself on loan at Reading Women, basically confirmed the story while talking about the impact that the influx of American women’s soccer stars into the WSL has had on the league.
I’m torn between two impulses here. The first is gratitude to Morgan for throwing her weight around and causing actual lasting change on the women’s game. Morgan is used to higher qualities of professionalism and facilities in the United States compared to the UK.
But it’s not really about gratitude, is it? And that’s the second impulse. As Fishlock puts it, it’s not about being thankful to Spurs for allowing the Women to train at the new men’s facility, it’s the expectation that the women’s clubs should be afforded the same “basic standards” that they offer the men’s side. So I’m also angry that it took Morgan, who’s only here for a few months, to basically shame the club into letting the Women train in the same facilities that the men do.
But that anger is already passing. Spurs ultimately did the right thing, and it seems we have Morgan to thank for it. As far as I’m concerned, despite the marginal on-field returns during her short loan, she’ll always a Tottenham Woman player for life.

As a first time mother, USWNT striker Alex Morgan is reveling in the small victories that came from waiting a year to go for gold at the Tokyo Olympics. "I think I'm in a unique situation with the Olympics happening last year and me coming back from pregnancy in May, it was going to be a really tight turnaround and I was going to have to force my body to recover faster than I would have liked," the 31-year-old said to Yahoo Sports. "Thinking about the positives, I was really able to spend more time with my daughter and give my body the rest and recovery it needed from giving birth. All the uncertainty has really taught the team to take it one day at a time." http://instagram.com/p/CP9PhDBFZZJ In an effort to expedite her return to form, Morgan signed with English FA Women's Super League team Tottenham Hotspur in September 2020. After four appearances and two goals, Morgan returned stateside on December 21, 2020. Though her tenure was short, the Orlando Pride star still had plenty to say when asked about the similarities and differences between playing in London compared to the States. "Playing in the United States, I mean this is a country where you sometimes have to fly six hours for one match," she explained. "In England, the furthest match is maybe a four hour drive. You're not going to get these long plane rides that really test your body. "I do think there's more parity among the U.S. teams. I think because women's soccer has more of a rich history in the United States, the quality is a little better. But, I was really impressed to see the resources being put into the Super League to ensure its growth. I want to see women's soccer continue to grow around the world, not just here or in England." The significance of fans at live games The absence of fans when live sports first returned was evident. With the help of Michelob ULTRA and a few famous friends, Morgan wants to offer supporters a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the return of live sports like an MVP by winning tickets to several major sporting events in 2022.
