Looks like Selena Gomez did a social media cleanse for the New Year, as hawkeyed fans noticed that the "Wolves" singer unfollowed a couple hundred people on Instagram this week.
According to screenshots posted on Twitter late Saturday night, the 25-year-old went from following 316 people to 35. As of midday Monday, she's now following 37 people. Selena has also changed her profile picture to an old shot of her mother, Mandy Teefey, and has updated her bio.
Many people pointed out that she unfollowed people including Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello, the 13 Reasons Why cast, and more. Here are the accounts that she still is following:
New year, new Instagram game! Selena Gomez has unfollowed all but 37 accounts on Instagram. Fans noticed that the 25-year-old “Wolves” crooner, who previously followed more than 300 people, made the changes on Saturday, January 6.
The former Disney star is still following close friends Taylor Swift, Francia Raisa and Julia Michaels, in addition to Amy Schumer and Jessica Alba. She is also still keeping tabs on several fan accounts dedicated to celebrating her career.
Gomez devotees took to Twitter to ask what prompted the “Bad Liar” songstress to unfollow Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello, Gigi Hadid, her costars on her breakout series Wizards of Waverly Place and the cast of 13 Reasons Why.
Selena Gomez’s rekindled relationship with Justin Bieber has been highly publicised in recent months, after her split with The Weeknd.
Despite returning to an old flame, Selena seems to want to start afresh this year after recently unfollowing nearly 300 accounts on Instagram.
2017 was a big year for Selena because she underwent kidney transplant surgery in the midst of her battle with the autoimmune disease lupus. Her best friend Francia Raisa donated her kidney to the singer.
Staggeringly, Selena also signed a $30 million deal with Puma in the same year that saw her net worth jump to $60 million.
Selena Gomez has made a “significant” and “anonymous” donation to the Time’s Up legal defense fund that “far exceeded her salary” as the lead actress in Woody Allen’s forthcoming film A Rainy Day In New York, a source close to the actress tells People.
The report follows donations to anti-harassment initiatives by several of Gomez’s co-stars in the film, including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Hall, and Griffin Newman. All three claimed to make donations equal in size to their wages from the movie, and publicly condemned Allen, who was first accused of childhood sexual assault in 1992. Greta Gerwig, David Krumholtz, and Mira Sorvino also expressed regret in recent weeks for working on past Allen projects.
The “Bad Liar” singer has expressed support for the Time’s Up campaign, but not spoken publicly about Allen. When Time’s Up announced its legal fund, dedicated to combating harassment in low-wage workplaces, Gomez said, “It’s time to shift the balance in the workplace, from representing the few to representing us all.”
Gomez’s mother and former manager Mandy Teefy wrote this week on Instagram that her daughter doesn’t fully understand the outrage over Allen’s alleged abuse of his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.
Selena shared the ad campaign to her Instagram story on Thursday, which had her song Wolves as the background music.
She kicks of the clips telling her Instagram family she's in New York City shooting the campaign; soon after a montage of her rocking different looks during the shoot appears.
