To celebrate #UNDay 2023, a special concert featuring the Environmental Symphony: The Movement and world renowned cellist Michael Fitzpatrick, on the theme of 'The Frontlines of Climate Action', is held in the General Assembly Hall at UN Headquarters in New York.
The theme of this year’s UN Day Concert reinforces Secretary-General António Guterres’s call for “faster, bolder climate action,” and intends to galvanize world leaders ahead of the COP28 climate conference in Dubai later in the year, and the 2024 International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Antigua and Barbuda.

The UN chief says he is "deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza.”
Antonio Guterres condemns both the use of civilians as "human shields" and the bombing of southern Gaza after an evacuation order.
Israeli diplomats responded angrily after Guterres also suggested the Hamas attack on Israel "did not happen in a vacuum.”
Israel has continued its heavy bombing of Gaza - the Hamas-run health ministry says almost 5,800 people have been killed since 7 October.
More than 1,400 were killed in the attacks on Israel by Hamas gunmen who raided communities near the border, targeting civilians.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who has returned from a visit to Egypt, also participated in the meeting. He began his speech by saying, ''The situation in the Middle East is becoming more and more dire by the minute,'' and called for a ''humanitarian ceasefire'' to deliver relief supplies to Gaza and the immediate release of hostages taken by Hamas.
Secretary of State Blinken attended from the United States, which supports Israel, and said, ''A 'temporary ceasefire for humanitarian purposes' to support Gaza must be considered.'' At the Security Council meeting on the 18th, the United States was the only country to oppose a resolution submitted by Brazil calling for a halt to hostilities, saying it ''does not mention Israel's right to self-defense.'' Many council members voiced their disappointment when they exercised their veto power.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday (October 25) rejected accusations that he had justified Hamas attacks on Israel in his statement to the Security Council on Tuesday.
"I am shocked by the misrepresentations by some of my statement ... as if I was justifying acts of terror by Hamas. This is false. It was the opposite," he told reporters. "I believe it's necessary to set the record straight – especially out of respect for the victims and their families."
