Grace VanderWaal's new song "Moonlight" may be catchy and fun to dance to, but it also deals with a serious – and important – topic: depression.
In an Instagram video, the singer explained that "The story is someone going through depression and seeing the way they’re changing and kind of that fake, altered personality. A lot of people go through depression, and if you know someone or think someone is, please talk to them and try and reach out."
Grace told USA Today that a friend of hers was struggling with depression when she wrote the song. "I wrote about it because, I don’t know, it was something happening at the time," she said. "And I always write about whatever’s happening in the moment in my life. ... I was just writing from my own personal heart, to get it out."
