â—‡28th Winter Youth Olympics Figure Skating Women's Short Program (Gangneung Ice Arena, South Korea)
Mao Shimada (15) (Kinoshita Academy), who was last season's World Junior Queen and became the first Japanese player to win two consecutive titles at this season's Junior Grand Prix (GP) Final, started in the lead with 71.05 points.
Shimada, who appeared as the 16th skier, successfully performed a double axel (two and a half revolutions and a half jump) at the beginning of the event, earning him an additional 1.04 points in GOE (performance points). The following triple jump, a series of flips and toe loops, was not clear on the first jump, but he landed well and earned an extra point. His third triple Lutz was a perfect success, earning him 1.85 points. With three spins as the highest level 4 component other than jumps, he was the only one to score in the 70s among the 17 athletes who performed in the short program (SP).
