Prince William has rushed to the aid of an elderly dignitary after he collapsed during an event in England. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were promoting their mental health campaign Heads Together when the young Royal sprung into action. The Duke was greeting people outside Stewards Academy in Harlow when 72-year-old Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Essex Jonathan Douglas-Hughes fell hard onto the concrete behind the Prince. Mr Douglas-Hughes was not apparently injured.

Prince William has been spotted wolfing down plates of bacon and eggs in the work canteen during his shifts as an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot, despite wife Kate's attempts to keep him healthy. It's hard to resist the allure of a good fry-up, and it seems the temptation is no weaker if you have a Royal's refined tastes. The 34-year-old prince was said to have been on a healthy-eating kick and nutrition experts even commented on his newly svelte look after a visit to a children's hospice earlier this month. But the £5 fry-up at Cambridge Airport's staff canteen, consisting of bacon, eggs, tomatoes, sausages, baked beans and mushrooms, has proved to good to miss for the experienced helicopter pilot.

It involves teamwork - it's about saving lives - and it helps Britain's future king to feel that he's "making a contribution". In an interview with the BBC Future website about his experiences piloting an air ambulance, he has spoken about his "dark" moments in the job. It was William himself who insisted on finding a civilian job after he completed his tour of duty as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot in 2013. Piloting an air ambulance was his way of finding a new role for himself. It was a departure from tradition. No royal in direct line to the throne had done such a thing before.

The Duchess of Cambridge is used to being the centre of attention wherever she goes. Yet for once Kate is preparing to share the limelight. When she and Prince William touch down in Canada on Saturday for the start of an official tour, comparisons with the country’s first lady are inevitable. Like Kate the Canadian Prime Minister’s wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, 41, is a glamorous style icon. In fact in a nation that does not have its own Royal family she is often described as Canada’s answer to Kate Middleton. The meeting of Kate and Sophie has been given added spice because the Duchess is taking her children, George, three, and Charlotte, 16 months, on the trip. It will be her daughter’s first overseas visit so there is also the opportunity to observe the two families at play. Sophie and her husband Justin have Xavier, eight, Ella-Grace, seven, and Hadrien, two. At 34, the Duchess might be the first lady’s junior by seven years but the pair have plenty in common. Both Kate and Sophie come from similar middle-class backgrounds. Sophie, who hails from the Montreal area, is the daughter of Jean Grégoire, a stockbroker, and his wife Estelle, a nurse. Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole, were airline employees before starting a party supplies business.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s trip to Canada is the eighth time the couple have been abroad since marrying in 2011 - but they have some way to go to match the distances travelled by the Prince of Wales and Diana in the early years of their marriage. During their five-and-a-half years together as man and wife, William and Kate have clocked up 71,196 miles on foreign trips and spent 44 days abroad. But during the equivalent period of their marriage, Charles and Diana travelled 95,856 miles and spent a total of 100 days overseas during eight trips.
