Ariana Grande and John Legend perform their ornate cover of "Beauty and the Beast" in a music video promoting Disney's upcoming live-action remake of the titular animated film. The two singers, dressed in lavish formal attire, harmonize against the backdrop of the Beast's massive castle. Legend remains seated behind a grand piano, while Grande explores her surroundings, aided by a crew of dancers dressed as giant rose petals. A mixture of real-life and computer-animated characters appear throughout the clip, including Belle (Emma Watson), the Beast and anthropomorphic teapot Mrs. Potts. Grande and Legend's version is faithful to the original, Grammy-winning duet, performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the 1991 Disney classic. The updated recording debuted in the final trailer for the new film, which hits theaters March 17th.

Children under age 16 won't be able to go to the new Disney film Beauty and the Beast in Russia because it includes a gay character, the Russian Culture Ministry said Tuesday (March 7). The ministry told The Associated Press in an emailed statement that its decision for the 16-plus rating followed petitions by lawmaker Vitaly Milonov, known for his ultraconservative views, petitioned for the live-action film to be banned. In a letter released Saturday by the RIA Novosti news agency, Milonov protested the screening of a movie that disseminates "overt and shameless propaganda of sin and sexual perversion under the guise of a fairy tale." Milonov, who was elected to the State Duma last year, is a former local lawmaker in St. Petersburg who has built his political career on opposing LGBT rights.

For director Dave Meyers, the news that a studio wants to include movie footage in a music video usually signifies “the death of a good music video,” he says. But when Disney decided to add scenes from its new live action version of Beauty and the Beast into his video for Ariana Grande and John Legend’s remake of the classic title song, Meyers knew it would add to the magic, not detract. Plus, after 10 years of collaborating with Disney on such clips as Avril Lavigne’s “Alice” from Alice in Wonderland and Pink’s “Just Like Fire” from Alice Through The Looking Glass, he had implicit trust in their partnership. The lush, romantic clip, released earlier this week, features Grande and Legend in a majestic, chandelier-filled ballroom. As Legend sits at the piano, Grande sings surrounded by graceful dancers dressed as rose petals, symbolizing the dying flower in the movie that ticks off the days until the Prince is doomed to remain a beast for the rest of his life. As Legend and Grande perform, the beast/Prince, played by Dan Stevens, and the beauty/Belle, portrayed by Emma Watson, dance elegantly, wrapped in each other’s arms.
