Three years after releasing her record-breaking pop album 1989, Taylor Swift has returned — and this time, she’s controlling the narrative. The singer announced in a series of Instagram posts Wednesday that her new album, Reputation, will be released Nov. 10, with the first single from the record dropping Thursday night. She also debuted the black and white cover art, featuring Swift sporting her signature dark lip, as well as slicked-back hair and a sweatshirt, with mock newspaper headlines and columns superimposed over part of her face. On Monday morning, Swift sent the internet into a frenzy by sharing a mysterious 10-second video on her social media accounts — her first posts since her accounts were scrubbed on Friday. The distorted, silent clip appeared to depict a snake tail (though some social media users also compared the image to a dragon tail). Swift presented the footage without any caption. A second, longer clip — with another piece of the tail — went up early Tuesday. In the latest post, which went up at 10 a.m. Wednesday, the head of what turned out to be a serpent was revealed. "Reputation" is set to be the pop star's sixth studio album.

Three years after Taylor Swift released 1989 and following months of near-radio silence from the star, the singer returned this week with Look What You Made Me Do, the first single from her forthcoming new album Reputation. The album's title is a little on-the-nose, considering that Swift's reputation is among the most notorious in pop music. She's a polarizing figure in the same vein of her rival Kanye West, in that her defenders will never stray from her side and her detractors will never be won over, her every move inspiring breathless commentary. Between her tabloid-grabbing dramas and a few questionable choices of singles (like the anemic Bad Blood), it's been easy to forget that Swift is one of her generation's best songwriters, and 1989 is a very good album. Look What You Made Me Do leans even further into the Top 40 impulses of Swift's last release, going full Britney Spears in its verging-on-madness psycho pop — with a talk-sung chorus that's a little too close to comfort to I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred.

Nicki Minaj raised eyebrows Thursday night when she sent out a simple tweet that some speculated might be about Taylor Swift, who dropped her highly anticipated new single “Look What You Made Me Do” that same night.
“N—- sit down. Be humble,” the 34-year-old tweeted, referencing Kendrick Lamar‘s hit track “Humble.”
Minaj did not name Swift in the tweet, and it’s unclear whether the post was a jab at the 27-year-old singer at all. But that didn’t stop the Barbz — and the Swifties — from questioning whether the stars’ feud had been reignited.
Many fans replied to the tweet with gifs of Swift, and some even mentioned the “Bad Blood” singer’s handle, including a simple question mark.

With still over two months to go until the release of her upcoming album, Taylor Swift is already smashing records: Early Saturday morning (Aug. 26), her lyric video for "Look What You Made Me Do" had the most views within 24 hours of its debut than any other lyric video in YouTube history. "Look" was watched more than 19 million times in the 24 hours after its release early Friday morning (Aug. 25). As of Saturday evening, the video had almost 28.5 million views. Swift surpassed the record previously held by The Chainsmokers featuring Coldplay, whose "Something Just Like This" lyric video hit 9 million views in a day back in February.
