On Thursday morning, Good Morning America revealed that boy band member AJ McLean will compete as a celebrity contestant on season 29 of Dancing with the Stars.
The singer joins The Bachelorette's Kaitlyn Bristowe, who was announced as one of the celebrity cast members in June, on the upcoming season which will see Tyra Banks take on the role as host of the show.
McLean, who shares daughters Ava Jaymes, 7, and Lyric Dean, 3, with wife Rochelle, told GMA that his little girls can't wait to see their dad on the show.
"They are stoked — especially my oldest," he said. "She's been doing competitive dance now for the last two years and my youngest is obviously trying to follow in her big sis' footsteps, so they're both just elated."
He added, "It's going to be awesome for them to watch daddy cutting a jig on TV."

Among the many wonderfully deranged performances The Masked Singer has given us, Nick Carter belting Journey in a sequined pink crocodile suit is actually pretty run-of-the-mill. And he agrees his appearance on the show skewed toward the less outlandish side of things: When we asked how he tolerated being trapped inside a three-foot-long crocodile snout, he ensured us he’d had it easier than a few other contestants. (It took at least three people to remove the glittery top lip of Wendy Williams’s costume earlier this year.) Which isn’t to say that Carter wasn’t already a pro at managing the physical tolls of onstage performance. The guy has spent every night it out to boy-band bops since he was 13. These days, the dance cardio usually happens at home with his kids, while concerts are on pause—which he admits is a bit less of a calorie burn. Nevertheless, he’s doing what he can to stay active, hitting the golf course and jogging around his Las Vegas neighborhood before the kids are up in the morning. Following his big reveal as the man behind the crocodile mask and the release of his new single “80s Movie," Carter called up GQ to talk about eating clean, discovering boxing, and performing with a tail. What does a typical day look like for you right now? I don’t know if I’m getting older or what, but I wake up around 5 in the morning. I’ll have enough time to go on a morning walk or jog for about 30, 45 minutes. Then I get back home, and I’ve just got enough time before my daughter and son are up and at ’em. I’m pretty much just at their beck and call all morning. I chase my daughter around because she is extremely active. I’m constantly getting a workout with her and my son. Recently I’ve been golfing a lot, so I’ll try to fit that in. Golfing has helped me get out in the world and stay active. I’m with the kids the rest of the day. We put on reruns of the game Just Dance on YouTube and do a dance party. We’re constantly trying to find ways to stay moving while we’re in the house. Your history as a dancer in the Backstreet Boys has become pretty iconic. When you started in the band, did you already have dance training? I went to dance school in Tampa, where I was pretty much raised, at the age of nine. It got to the point where I was performing at the halftime of Buccaneers games with a little dance troupe. I had these cheerleaders around me—they called me Nick and the Angels. It started with ballet, then went to tap, then jazz, and then pop. When did you start doing actual fitness outside of performances? Lifting weights and training for strength has always been a part of my program. I really started training with weights, probably around 28 or 29 years old. I realized the importance of strength as I got older. When I first started training, Gunnar Peterson put me on a program with this heavy, weighted vest. I was releasing one of my first solo records and kind of overweight at the time. And I was running up and down the Hollywood Hills in the mountains, trying to get in shape. It was one of the hardest things ever. Then I started to get into more of the boxing and MMA world. One of my buddies runs Gloveworx, and my wife and I were with him in the beginning when he had the idea to start it. We started to go to his classes and do the boxing mixed with circuit training and weightlifting. I go to a mixed martial arts gym here in Las Vegas, where we do the MMA stuff and weightlifting. My wife and I spar together. She’s extremely motivating for me, so it’s something we can share together.

Backstreet Boys‘ Kevin Richardson has posted a cryptic tweet about losing “a best friend to QAnon”.
The singer shared a Cosmopolitan article that details a first-hand account of losing a friendship due to the conspiracy theory-driven beliefs of a QAnon member which he captioned: “an interesting read”.
It comes just days after bandmate Brian Littrell created an account on right wing social media platform Parler, which he set up in the wake of Donald Trump being banned from social media platforms for his comments about the US Capitol violence.
Richardson’s post hints at a subtle dig aimed at Littrell after he joined Parler – view the tweets below.
Littrell’s tweet also caused anger among fans, with one writing: “This is heartbreaking. How do you support this? Honestly… This isn’t funny. I’ve been a fan for 22yrs but this right here… Naw I’m done. Absolutely heartbroken.”

Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean is speaking out about an experience he had with Scientology.
During an appearance on the “Pretty Messed Up” podcast, he described visiting the “megacenter” years ago when he lived in the area.
“At the time, I was living in Los Feliz right down the street from the megacenter of Scientology, so I was curious. I didn’t know what it was, I didn’t know anything about it. But I wanted to not go alone, so I took a friend with me,” he said.
“They brought us to this media room and they sat us down and they said would you mind watching this short film? And we watched this short film, it was about 15 minutes long, and then I said OK, well, that was interesting and we went to leave and the door was locked. They wouldn’t let us out and they replayed the same film again … they played it three times until someone heard me knocking.”
He said that experience “freaked [him] out” because it seemed “like a brainwashing technique” and it did not “seem normal to [him].”
Also appearing on the podcast was Leah Remini, who has spoken out about her experience leaving the Church of Scientology. She slammed one of Scientology’s most-famous members recently.

AJ McLean Says The Last Time He Saw Britney Spears "Broke His Heart" Backstreet Boys AJ McLean and Nick Carter share their support for Britney Spears with Andy Cohen. AJ McLean and Nick Carter are standing up for their longtime friend Britney Spears. The Backstreet Boys joined Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” today to promote their upcoming Las Vegas Holiday Residency “A Very Backstreet Christmas Party”, where they opened up about Spears and her ongoing conservatorship battle. http://instagram.com/p/CROmZ2NJLkd “I could tell you right now that my thoughts and my prayers are with her. I am a 100-per-cent Team Britney,” McClean said. “I think it’s insane. I think it’s, it is completely brutal.” He continued, “The one thing that she shared that really, really irks me is the whole IUD situation. I mean, that to me is physical abuse. Just the whole thing to me is just it’s grotesque. And I pray for her. I really feel in my heart that she’s going to break free of all of this, and I really hope that she does. She’s a sweetheart… She can’t do anything like literally, she can’t do anything. She can’t even go to go see a doctor, on her own.”
