INTERVIEW - Diana Vickers on her career, her music, future in acting at The Duck House Interview at Vaudeville Theatre on December 9, 2013 in London, England.
How would you describe your style?
Tomboy chic. I like an androgynous look. There’s nothing sexier than a woman in a suit.
What is your favourite fashion era?
I loved the 90s when grunge and boho styles exploded on to the scene. I also like the miniskirts and trapeze dresses of the 60s – I definitely have a retro streak.
Your wardrobe for The Duck House is pretty skimpy – is that scary?
A bit. I play the girlfriend of an MP’s son and I wouldn’t have the nerve to wear most of her clothes in real life. In one scene we see her in an awesome Ted Baker coat – I love wearing that.
What are your favourite high-street brands?
You can’t beat Topshop, but I like Zara for coats and jackets.
Who are your favourite designers?
Burberry and Stella McCartney for evening wear. My boyfriend models for Burberry so I get a discount.
Do you have a fashion icon?
The character Cher in the film Clueless, played by Alicia Silverstone. She pioneered double denim and tartan suits with over-the-knee socks. It was so wild and wacky.
What is your best beauty secret?
I suffered badly from acne when I was younger so I cleanse my skin extra carefully. I always remove my make-up with Eve Lom Cleanser and use exfoliating pads from Space NK.
How many shoes and handbags do you own?
All my disposable income goes on shoes and handbags. I probably have around 35 pairs of shoes or boots and 12 handbags. I buy a new pair of Acne boots every season and I love Russell & Bromley brogues. I have four Mulberry bags – my boyfriend bought me a fab metallic-red Burberry bag recently, too.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?
Don’t get upset if the latest trend doesn’t suit you. Stick to what’s best for your shape.
What is your current favourite outfit?
An Acne T-shirt with black Burberry jeans, boots and a leather jacket.
How much do you spend on clothes each month?
This month I spent over £1,000, but other months I’ll spend nothing at all.
What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe?
A Stella McCartney dress, which cost £2,000. I wore it to the premiere of Little Voice when I was in the West End show back in 2009.
