Eugenie Bouchard served up a reminder of the ability that briefly looked set to make her a tennis superstar by powering through to the Auckland Classic quarter-finals. The Canadian was a Wimbledon finalist six years ago and looked to have the world at her feet, only for results to drastically tail off. She endured a wretched 13-match losing streak last season and began this week's tournament in New Zealand as the world number 262, having once been as high as fifth. But there is still time for 25-year-old Bouchard to turn around her faltering tennis career, and a 6-4 6-4 victory over French eighth seed Caroline Garcia was an eye-catching result. She and Garcia clattered a host of sparkling winners but each set ended the same way, with former world number four Garcia sending backhand service returns too long. Playing on a wildcard invitation, Bouchard will next face American Amanda Anisimova, an 18-year-old who has shot up to 25th in the WTA rankings. Anisimova saw off Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-2 6-4 to reach the last eight, teeing up a first meeting with Bouchard. "Definitely she's playing well," Anisimova said of Bouchard. "It should be exciting to play another new player." Alize Cornet and Jessica Pegula also won through to the last eight in Auckland.

It was indeed her determination that helped her win after two and a half hours over Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands. Bouchard displayed some colorful reactions then as her game started to unravel with having over a dozen service breaks and too many unforced errors to strangely win the game. She'd slam her racket down, grab a towel from a ball kid and looked rather frustrated in her coach Michael Joyce's direction. She'd win the match but now scoffs at the bad actions of the Utah Jazz basketballer Rudy Gobert. He had touched the press conference room mics before being diagnosed as having the coronavirus and Bouchard thinking it wasn't the coolest thing to do. The Canadian would also admit her own tainted personality saying "I didn't have the best attitude for sure...the coach is pissed about that." She wasn't so thrilled by her performances either at the beginning of this complicated season either. Bouchard made it through to the quarterfinals with Amanda Anisimova, but lost in a 3-set struggle. She'd also bail out in her third qualifying round to Martina Trevisan of Italy at the Australian Open amiss the bushfire controversy. Bouchard tried her luck at the Oracle Challenger Series but to suffer a first round defeat by Alexa Glatch. Everyone's season now is in a shambles due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemia and Bouchard is looking at what can be done to start improving her game and at what tournament that will be. Players are debating how they'll re-schedule their tour dates and when they will ever start back again. The Canadian is in the same mode but always manages to come out of tough situations on a positive note. It's her personal life which takes a drastic turn for the unpredictable and awards her tons of social media hoorays.

EUGENIE BOUCHARD has been flooded with offers for a quarantine doubles partner after saying self-isolation would be "a lot more fun with a boyfriend". The stunning Canadian tennis star, 26, is sat at home like the rest of us amid the coronavirus outbreak. All ATP and WTA tours have been suspended until June 7 with the pandemic totally decimating the sporting calendar. And Bouchard - who judging by her tweet appears to have split with Connor Davis - is clearly getting a bit bored at home. The former world No 5 tweeted: "Not complaining, but I feel like quarantine would be a lot more fun with a boyfriend." Cue a flurry of responses from fans all over the world. One joked: "Not bragging but I have 12 toilet rolls in my bathroom." And another quipped in reply to that message: "Hey thanks for letting me use your Ferrari last week bro."

Tennis star Genie Bouchard has agreed to go on a date with a fan when the coronavirus pandemic dies down and he's made some bizarre requests. The Canadian took to Twitter last month to complain about social distancing and insisted it would be 'a lot more fun with a boyfriend'. She then received a slew of messages with 'resumes' for men who were eager to get involved. http://instagram.com/p/B-DHQHjJiRz But taking part in an Instagram Live with sportscaster Allie LaForce offered comedian Bob Menery the chance to shoot his shot with the 26-year-old. Bob offered £400 to go on a date with Bouchard to which LaForce replied asking for a fee of £3000 that could then go to paying for hospital staff's food. http://instagram.com/p/B-ae_ZgJHVO The tennis star said: "You're [LaForce] also helping me, being a matchmaker for me because I clearly need one.

Genie Bouchard apparently wasn’t joking a few weeks back when she was pining for a boyfriend to spend time with during self-isolation. http://instagram.com/p/B-z2nU8Jdkx “Not complaining, but I feel like quarantine would be a lot more fun with a boyfriend,” Bouchard wrote on Twitter. Naturally, that statement combined with the fact that Bouchard went on a few dates with some random guy on Twitter who she made a Super Bowl bet with in 2018 (and now will reportedly be made into a movie), meant that guys were coming out of the woodwork, shooting their shots for a chance to be her quarantine boyfriend. As far as we know, Bouchard didn’t take any of them up on their very generous offers, but this past weekend that all changed. Saturday night, Bouchard was on Instagram Live with Allie LaForce when she told the broadcaster, “I remember thinking, ‘Damn, it would be so nice, you’d have so much time to hang out with someone.’ Two days later my agent … (told me) I’m getting dating resumes in his email inbox. He sent me some and some of them are hilarious. A guy wrote out his resume like past experiences, good qualities, strengths and everything. I was dying.” Bouchard added that she’s been stuck in Las Vegas this entire time and is “super alone.” When a fan named Bob made numerous comments about how much he loved Bouchard, LaForce got him on FaceTime and he ended up sending her a DM asking her to “Netflix and chill.” The fan, comedian Bob Menery, then offered Bouchard $500 to go on a date with him. She didn’t think that was enough and noted that $3,000 would feed the staff at a hospital as LaForce and her husband, Houston Astros pitcher Joe Smith, partnered with Project Frontline to deliver hundreds of meals to hospitals during the pandemic. Then, just to sweeten the deal even further, Menery said he would add another $1,000 if Bouchard would order food in a British accent on their date.
