The original stars of Beverly Hills, 90210 were gearing up to launch a revival of the original series when Luke Perry suffered a fatal stroke in March 2019. Just two months later, the stars started filming without Perry—who had been involved in the revival's development—but production wasn't without its challenges. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling revealed the "heartbreaking" moment when costar Ian Ziering broke down over Perry while filming the revival. Read on for more about how Perry's absence was felt during filming, and for news about another beloved star who recently passed, Ryan Reynolds Shares the Last Conversation He Had With Alex Trebek. Perry, who famously starred as Dylan McKay in the original series, was beloved by most of the world, including his 90210 cast mates. He was so loved, in fact, that Spelling recalled Ziering slipped and asked for him while filming the revival, BH90210. "There's always eight of us and you count, and Ian turned around and said, 'Where's Luke?' And then I just saw him catch himself," Spelling said during the Nov. 23 episode of 90210MG, the podcast she co-hosts with Garth. "He turned away and I could just see his heart breaking and he started to cry. It was what we were all thinking though. We didn't feel complete. And we still don't." On the podcast, Garth and Spelling are going back through the original show episode by episode for the first time. During the third episode of the podcast, they rewatched and discussed the second episode of Beverly Hills, 90210—the episode in which Perry's character was first introduced. "Seeing this episode, it takes you back to the moment and you almost are into it and you feel like you don't have to accept that he's gone," Spelling said. Garth agreed, saying she didn't want the episode to end because it felt like Perry was still there. And for more adored celebs from this time, revisit The Biggest '90s TV Teen Idols, Then and Now.

While promoting their new ‘90210’-centric podcast, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling dished on whether or not they’d ever do a straight-forward reboot of the ’90s hit series. Even though Fox’s 2019 reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210, titled BH90210, was met with fan frenzy, it wasn’t popular enough to renewed for a second season. And that may be because it wasn’t exactly the reboot that some had hoped for. Instead of a straight-forward reboot/revival of the series, this iteration of the show focused on the original series’ stars — Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling, and Shannen Doherty — playing heightened versions of themselves. And while Jennie told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY that she and Tori wanted to do “something different and innovative” at the time, they wouldn’t be opposed to doing a more, straight-forward revival of the original series in the future. While promoting their new iHeartRadio podcast 9021OMG!, in which they’ve been rewatching the series from beginning to end and documenting their reactions, Tori said she “can’t imagine not working” with her former co-stars again. When they first started coming up with the idea for a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot — ahead of BH90210‘s 2019 premiere — Jennie said they asked themselves, “Should we do a straight reboot? Should we play those characters again and just catch up with them later in life?” But she and Tori “were bent on the idea of doing something different and innovative and that’s when we wanted to kind of twist it from a different perspective and do it the way we did it.” But different isn’t always good, and Jennie seemed to agree. “Some people loved it, and some people didn’t like it — they wanted a straight reboot.” Which is why Jennie wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of doing a straight-forward revival of the series like Will & Grace, Roseanne and more shows have done recently. However, she “can’t imagine everyone going back to those characters, but you know, crazier things have happened.”

Gone, but never forgotten. "Riverdale" left fans in tears with an emotional cameo from late star Luke Perry. The Feb. 3 graduation episode featured a dream sequence in which Luke's character, Fred Andrews, was overwhelmed to see his son, Archie (KJ Apa), say goodbye to high school. The scene originally aired back in 2017 and the show found a bittersweet way to reuse it and honor Luke's memory. The actor died in March 2019 after suffering a massive stroke. He was just 52. "Riverdale" acknowledged the tragedy by writing Fred's death into the show and paying tribute to Luke in the process.

Many know of Luke Perry from his role on "Beverly Hills 90210" while others may know him for his brief yet memorable role in the 1997 film "The Fifth Element." Still others may know him from the hit show "Riverdale," which Perry was filming in Los Angeles at the time of his death. His work spanned decades and genres, and he possessed skills and humility that remain his legacy to this day. Perry's death shocked fans and colleagues alike. As Yahoo reported at the time, Perry's cause of death was an "ischemic cerebrovascular accident." The publication further revealed that "there were no underlying causes listed as contributing to his death, according to the death certificate." Though he was rushed to the hospital on February 27, 2019, there was little doctors could do. The actor died five days later, on March 4, 2021, after being taken off life support. Luke Perry's legacy endures Luke Perry's final two projects, "Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood" and "Riverdale," have both gone on to win acclaim. The actor's family ensured that he was laid to rest in Dickson, Tennessee, where he lived when he wasn't filming. And it is in Dickson, Tennessee that some of the actor's most impressive work was done. When the area flooded in 2010, Yahoo reported, Perry was there to hand out supplies no matter the weather. Locals remember him as a kind man who was always quick with a smile and a kind word. It is a perception of the actor shared by the family he left behind. His son and daughter both honored him in their own ways and both committed themselves to living the kind of life Perry had wanted for them. His fiancée, Wendy Madison Bauer, gave a statement to ET shortly after Perry's death. In it, she thanked everyone for their support and love during the painful and sudden loss of her partner for more than a decade. Sadly, many people lose loved ones to the same condition that took Perry's life, and his death shines a light on this reality. What is an ischemic cerebrovascular accident? As Yahoo reported, ischemic cerebrovascular accidents, aka ischemic strokes, are the most common kind of stroke. According to the American Stroke Association, roughly 87% of all strokes are ischemic. The Association explained that ischemic strokes occur when blood clots form and then find their way to the arteries of the brain. Once there, they block blood flow to the brain, resulting in a stroke. Ischemic strokes can be broken down into two subtypes, according to Johns Hopkins. The first type is thrombotic stroke. "These are caused by a blood clot that develops in the blood vessels inside the brain," the site explained. The second type is embolic stroke. "These are caused by a blood clot or plaque debris that develops elsewhere in the body and then travels to one of the blood vessels in the brain through the bloodstream," Johns Hopkins detailed. Strokes sometimes occur with little to no warning; however, strokes can often be prevented by making lifestyle changes (via NHS).
