After blaming Muslim immigrants for the deadly shooting by a white supremacist at two New Zealand mosques, an Australian senator had an egg cracked over his head by a teenager and is now facing censure.
Fraser Anning, an independent and former member of the far-right, anti-immigration One Nation party, drew widespread outrage for his comments made in tweets and an official statement.
"The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place," Anning said in a statement.
"Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence?" he also tweeted.

Marriage proposals have flowed in for the teenager who cracked an egg over Fraser Anning's head as thousands of protesters marched the streets calling for the senator to be sacked. Will Connolly - dubbed 'Eggboy' - shot to stardom on Saturday after egging the controversial senator at a press conference in the wake of his comments linking the Christchurch terror attacks to Muslim immigration. On Tuesday, protesters flocked to a rally at the State Library in Melbourne's CBD, holding placards condemning Mr Anning and roundly praising the teenager. 'I'll marry egg boy,' one placard read. 'Egg boys turn into egg men when they act for racial justice,' another sign read.

Fraser Anning compared his egging by a teenage boy to the New Zealand terror attack in which a white supremacist shot dead dozens of Muslim worshippers at two mosques. Anning, 69, who represents Queensland, sparked outrage when he released a statement blaming the racist New Zealand attack on Muslim immigration. He refused to back down or apologize. Following the comments, William Connolly, 17, from Melbourne, Australia, cracked an egg on the back of Anning’s head as he talked to reporters. The senator then turned around and slapped the boy twice in the face before two of his supporters strong-armed Connolly to the floor, pinning him down. Footage of the incident went viral and Connolly earned the nickname “Egg Boy.” Victoria police are investigating. In a video filmed in the aftermath of the egging and uploaded to YouTube, Anning is interviewed by a supporter about what happened. “Because he was only a kid I only slapped him with an open hand, but, you know, he deserved that,” Anning said. “He needs to, you know, get a few manners, and just because somebody has a different opinion to you there's no need to attack them. Just like we saw over in New Zealand. “No need to go and kill people and attack people just because they have a different view. I don't agree with them being here but, you know, no need to go and shoot them.”

The 17-year-old was filmed breaking an egg on Senator Anning's head while he spoke to media at a political meeting in Melbourne's south-east earlier this month, before he was struck by the Queensland MP and restrained by his supporters.
Since images of the incident were beamed around the world, social media admirers of the Melbourne teenager have offered him a Ferrari and a 5-star holiday in Turkey — although others have cautioned against condoning any form of political violence.
In an interview with Channel 10's The Project, 'Egg Boy' — who identified himself only as Will — said he originally attended Senator Anning's meeting "to see if he could change my mind".
"After that tragedy in Christchurch, I thought the world should be supporting all those victims," he said.
"And the Senator released a statement that was pretty much a divisive hate speech blaming the victims for the attack — and I was just flat-out disgusted.
"I actually went in there to listen to him for an hour to see if he could change my mind. I'm a pretty forgiving person and in my mind I wanted to forgive him, but then he started saying some more things."
He said he did not expect the Senator to react to the incident, which he believes has been blown "completely out of proportion", and maintained the stunt was intended to be "a few laughs with some mates".
"There's no reason to physically attack anyone", he said, adding that he could "understand why some people reacted the way they did".

An Australian senator acted in self-defence when he physically retaliated against a boy who had smashed an egg on the lawmaker's head, police have ruled. Video of last month's clash involving Senator Fraser Anning went viral and sparked debate in Australia over who - if anyone - should face police action. Police cautioned the 17-year-old boy, but said neither would face charges. The incident happened after Mr Anning caused fury by blaming the New Zealand mosque attacks on Muslim migration. Last week, the Senate censured Mr Anning for his comments which he made on the day that dozens of Muslims were killed by a gunman in Christchurch.
