Ryan Hurd wrote two songs on his wife, Maren Morris' latest GIRL album, but his favorite song is "Good Woman" — one he didn't write, but was instead written about him. “We got married, and I was just in a hard spot. She was on tour, and I was getting on every other plane, every other day to go see her, while trying to still write and do my career, and it was just a hard time, for whatever reason,” Ryan told Hollywood Life. “But she wrote this song and it was just really specific and personal and it was like her letter to me in a way. That’s the song that I listen to when it gets kinda lonely, and so that one is the one that I love the most, but the whole album is iconic.” Hurd just released his own single, "To a T," which was inspired by Morris, and features his wife on vocals as well. “We started out with just such a creative thing, and we were friends, and just creative partners, and that was it. So, now, while we’re building a life together, being creative together is still the most special thing,” Hurd explained. “Whenever it feels natural to do it, we do it, and that’s just brilliant. It’s one thing that I think both of us will always really love about our relationship.”

Maren Morris has been making quite a few TV appearances following the release of her sophomore album Girl, but she finds a new way to switch it up every time. The country-pop singer-songwriter has performed a different song off Girl for every late-night performance. And with “Girl” and “The Bones” out, Morris chose one of the album’s best songs to perform on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
“A Song For Everything” is a nostalgic reminder of the power of music. Morris recalls the songs that soundtracked important moments of her life and asks us to do the same. Listening to music is an incredibly intimate experience — songs are powerful enough to “dance you through love,” “rock you through lonely,” “mixtape your heartbreak,” and “make you feel holy.”
Morris’ performance on Colbert sparkles with subtle details. Bassist Annie Clements, who has been rocking out on electric bass for Morris’ tour, kills it on upright bass. The warm, natural lighting captures the tender mood of the song, and Morris’ vocals, as always, are on point. It’s a difficult feat to make a TV soundstage seem intimate, but Morris’ delicate performance feels as personal as if she were in the room with you.

Special guest Niall Horan surprised the audience at Maren Morris' London show Friday night (May 31). Maren teased "someone special" was coming just before Horan joined her on the Royal Albert Hall stage. "I want you to make him feel at home," she instructed the crowd. The country-pop pair were all smiles as they dueted on "Seeing Blind," off of 2017's Flicker, with Horan on guitar and Morris harmonizing alongside him. http://instagram.com/p/ByLGGX7HbpW

Time flies when female artists aren’t catching much of a break. Maren Morris has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s country airplay chart with the title song from her second album, “Girl” — and she’s the first woman to do so since Kelsea Ballerini topped that chart 17 months ago, with “Legends” in February 2018. Morris also tops Mediabase’s separate country radio chart this week. At Mediabase, Ballerini had a No. 1 in June with “Miss Me More” and broke the logjam that had existed for women since her own “Legends” almost a year and a half earlier — now followed in short succession by Morris’ “Girl.” But both charts are in agreement on the fact that, among country’s female stars, only Morris and Ballerini have been able to go to the top since the beginning of 2018. Going back further, Carly Pearce and Lauren Alaina both managed it in 2017, and Carrie Underwood last had a No. 1 in 2016. Among the other seemingly radio-viable young female superstars of country, Miranda Lambert last topped the airplay charts in 2012, and Kacey Musgraves has never come close. So the supremacy of “Girl” counts as a legitimate unicorn sighting — not least of all because it’s a song by a woman addressed to women. “It was a risk,” Maren told Variety over the weekend between performances at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. “Every sophomore album from an artist is terrifying. It’s like the sophomore slump — are you gonna bomb and totally lose people? And putting ‘Girl’ out, it just summed up the whole record; I mean, that’s why I named it ‘Girl.’ But I didn’t think it was even gonna crack the top 10.”
