Taylor Swift has stoked speculation of new music with a mysterious countdown leading to April 26. It appeared in her Instagram story, on a website linked in her Twitter bio, and on ad screens around the world, Twitter users report. The countdown ends at midnight on a Thursday night, the moment international releases hit streaming services. http://instagram.com/p/BwM3l1EjTuh Since releasing Reputation in 2017, Swift has broken her political silence, skipped a couple of Grammy ceremonies, and released a concert film. Three weeks after Reputation’s release, she finally put it on streaming services. http://instagram.com/p/BvDKeQ4lP1e

The lead up to Taylor Swift’s speculated new single, due out April 26, is marked by a fresh aesthetic for the artist. Featuring everything from rainbow and heart filters bedazzling her Instagram, to a cotton-candy photoshoot on the cover of Time Magazine, she is positioning herself as a new woman since her vampy, hoodie-wearing, snake emoji-reclaiming days of Reputation. It's far from Swift's first metamorphosis. An artist who has been in the public eye for 14 years, Taylor’s album covers and promotional materials have always been a visual expression both of her music, life stages, and strategic positioning of her image. Here, we trace the evolution of Swift's aesthetic from her debut at 16, to her new look at 29.

Is it an album? A single and music video? A book? An unveiling of her quest for world domination? Whatever the nature of the project may be, Taylor Swift is dropping something on April 26, and she's driven her fans into a frenzy trying to figure it out. Fans have been speculating for months – well, really since the day her "Reputation" album was released on Nov. 10, 2017 – about her storied "TS7," shorthand for her seventh studio album. Swift started building speculation about new music in February, when she ramped up her social media posts and unveiled a rare cover photo shoot with Elle UK, along with an essay she wrote about her music.

And she confirmed that something big was on its way when she posted a countdown on her website April 13, ticking down the days, minutes and seconds leading up to April 26.
Every day since, Swift has shared an Instagram photo with the same pastel color scheme as her countdown announcement, including several bejeweled hearts, some fluffy pink tulle and a very on-brand filtered photo of her two cats.
Even a recent post featuring her Time cover for the magazine's "100 Most Influential People" fit the color scheme, featuring Swift in a baby-blue dress – the same color as her eyes – against a pale pink background.
The meticulously coordinated rollout has also doubled as Swiftie bait, with her fans flooding the internet with their best guesses about exactly what is arriving on "4.26," the caption that accompanies each of Swift's posts. And while Swift is certainly aware of the buzz surrounding her new release – posting another photo of one of her cats with a shocked look on its face, captioned "She just read all the theories" – the wild ideas about TS7 just keep rolling in.

Is Taylor Swift dropping her seventh album on April 26? That's certainly what it seems like. The "Blank Space" singer had posted a slew of cryptic clues on her Instagram highlighting that date, and cultivated a new pink, hearts, and sequin-filled aesthetic that seemingly teases a new era for the Taylorsphere. http://instagram.com/p/BwjzmMsjK2r One thing that fans don't know yet is what the theme or story behind this supposed album is — but Swift may have shared just enough clues to reveal it to eagle-eyed fans. Earlier this week, some fans noticed that Swift's new sparkly heart background was present on each of her Spotify tracks — save for one. That song is "The Story of Us," a track off her 2010 album Speak Now. That song had its original artwork, from the Speak Now album. Not every fan experienced this, which made me write this particular "clue" off as a glitch. Except, check this out: The length of "Story of Us" clocks in at exactly four minutes and 26 seconds. As in...April 26.
