When we are children, we are taught that sequences of letters, strung together, form words, and that words have meaning, and their meaning shapes the world around us. Then, you get older, the bright sheen of youthful innocence wears away, and you learn that words mean nothing, life is chaos, and the name “Cholmondeley” is actually, against all odds and logic, pronounced “Chumley.”  If you have been following British royal gossip recently, you have likely stumbled across this absolutely bananas name, because there are rumors that Prince William allegedly stepped out on Kate Middleton with Rose Hanbury, pictured up there, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. (Prince William’s lawyers have reportedly been sending threatening letters to suppress rumors of the affair.) Okay. Rose, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, is married to David Rocksavage (!), the Marquess of Cholmondeley. According to the British tabloid the Sun, Kate had a falling out with Rose, and told William she had to be “phased out” of their social circle, which is known as the Turnip Toffs. She is the woman at the center of a very royal scandal that has it all: a future monarch with a wandering eye; an elite social circle in the idyllic English countryside; and a strange silence from the British tabloids, who usually leap on every royal misstep (as evidenced by their cruel treatment of Duchess Meghan every other day for the last year.) Her name is Rose Hanbury, a former model married to the Marquess of Cholmondeley, who is 23 years older than her. Rose already has her own well-established royal connections: her grandmother was bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth II‘s wedding in 1947. |

According to a source at HollywoodLife, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren’t happy, but they’re even more “concerned” for the mystery woman around the rumors: Marchioness of Cholmondeley, Rose Hanbury, who was accused of having an affair with Prince William, which ended her friendship with Middleton.  “Kate and William generally ignore these sorts of nasty rumors,” the source said. “But this one has really rocked them, that’s why lawyers are involved. The rumor is so ugly and so false, they couldn’t just ignore it.” According to the source, Prince William and Middleton are even more worried for Hanbury, who hasn’t been in the spotlight as much as the couple. “And it doesn’t just hurt them, they are very concerned for Rose,” the source said.. “She’s a married woman with children, and she’s not used to this kind of public scrutiny. She’s a friend of not only Kate’s but also the entire family, so this is upsetting for everyone.” The source explained that Hanbury’s grandmother was a close friend of Queen Elizabeth II and was even in her wedding party at the Queen’s wedding to Prince Philip in 1947. “[It] couldn’t have come at a worse time for William and Kate, they’re about to celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary,” the source said. “The rumors bother Kate. They don’t feel good, even though she doesn’t believe them,” the source said. “What is being said about William makes Kate feel uncomfortable, and she believes in her marriage, not the nasty rumors floating around. It’s not like royal family members are immune to affairs—just look at Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles. However, many insiders claim that the Prince of Wales’ affair is precisely the reason Prince William would never succumb to temptation. He knows firsthand how extramarital relations can tear a family apart. Would he really risk his relationship and family for another woman?  Royal fans think the answer to that is no. Royal fans just don’t know what to believe—would Prince William, who has a seemingly perfect marriage with his wife, Kate Middleton, really cheat and risk it all? Or are the tabloids blowing things way out of proportion?  The British media has tread lightly on this matter and most haven’t reported on the scandal. Why? Fear of litigation, for one thing. But the bigger reason is that there isn’t any proof that Prince William cheated other than the circumstantial evidence that the Duchess of Cambridge allegedly wanted to “phase out” Rose Hanbury from their social circle. There are some royal fans who questioned if Rose Hanbury made up the rumors herself and spread them for attention. However, after weeks of silence the Marchioness of Cholmondeley has finally sent a huge message that didn’t require a single word.  There are only two people who know for sure if the Duke of Cambridge really followed in his father’s cheating footsteps. Most people only know a few incriminating details that could be interpreted in several ways. The backstory goes like this: Prince William and Kate Middleton used to be friends with the Marchioness and her husband, David Cholmondeley. They were all part of a social set known as the “Turnip Toffs” and did things like attend charity events together and play charades in their sprawling mansions. But then out of the blue, or so it seemed, the Duchess of Cambridge cut ties with her former friend. People were desperate to figure out why. |

For weeks now, we've been hearing rumors that Prince William cheated on Kate Middleton with one of the duchess' closest friends.  Such rumors have popped up persistently during Will and Kate's time together, but this time, they seemed to have far more credence than usual. For one thing, in an almost unprecedented move, William attempted to bury the rumors by siccing his lawyers on various media outlets.  Of course, his actions had the unintended effect of attracting even more attention. As a result, reports that William slept with Rose Hanbury while his own wife was pregnant have proven to carry remarkable staying power.  It was briefly overshadowed by the birth of Meghan Markle's first child, but now, the story is back in a big way. |
