Sochi Olympic team event champion Julia Lipnitskaia told R-Sport on Sunday she is to take part in the world figure skating championships in Saitama, Japan, later this month. Lipnitskaia, 15, became one of the youngest Olympic gold medal winners in history when she helped Russia to victory in the inaugural team event at the Olympics last month, winning the short program and the free skate. She went on to disappoint in the individual event, however, falling in both programs to finish fifth overall in a competition won by her compatriot Adelina Sotnikova. “I will prepare for the world championships in the same way as for other events and I haven’t thought about turning down the chance to participate,” Lipnitskaia told R-Sport. Asked about any changes she might make to her routines for the March 24-30 event, Lipnitskaia said: “We've introduced minor changes to my free program. I had a little break and I’ve been training since Saturday."

As odd as it might seem, it's actually a fairly standard practice in Russia. Coaches will often rub the ears of their athletes, supposedly because it keeps them calm and relaxed. Those readers who've had professional massages in the past might notice it as well. It's a common technique to hit pressure points and reduce stress. As odd as it might seem, it's actually a fairly standard practice in Russia. Every skater needs to warm up their ears? #Sochi12014 #YuliaLipnitskaya vine.co/v/MW1TdIJAhOEThose readers who've had professional massages in the past might notice it as well. Russia's Yulia Lipnitskaya has won a silver medal at the world figure skating championships under way in Saitama, Japan. She scored a total of 207.5 points (74.54 points for the short program and 132.96 points for free skating). Lipnitskaia's major mistake was falling on a triple salchow but she completed six other triple jumps. "It is a shame that I missed the salchow," Lipnitskaia said. "I didn't do it correctly, therefor I fell. In practice I struggled with it as well and for the next season, we need to fix it."
