Lucy Bronze says the disappointment of England’s semi-final defeat to Japan at the 2015 Women’s World Cup has been a driving force for them ever since. The Lionesses, making their first appearance in the last four of the competition, lost the contest in Edmonton 2-1 after Laura Bassett scored a stoppage-time own-goal. They subsequently took third place by beating Germany, and went on to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2017. After Phil Neville succeeded Mark Sampson as boss, England then won the four-team SheBelieves Cup for the first time this year – finishing their campaign with a 3-0 win against Japan.

Karen Bardsley & Ellie Roebuck are the latest Lionesses to speak to Nicole Holliday, as they play higher or lower, and talk about their World Cup experience so far. Phil Neville's side kick off their Group D campaign against the Scots at the Allianz Riviera, also known as the Stade de Nice. Twelve members of Neville's 23-player squad, including Steph Houghton, were part of the camp that came third at the 2015 edition under his predecessor Mark Sampson, England's best performance in the competition to date. Ranked third in the world and winners of the four-team SheBelieves Cup for the first time earlier this year, they are among the pre-tournament favourites. Leah Williamson (Arsenal, 22, 7, 0) Williamson is included in the squad for this summer’s tournament just under a year on from making her senior England bow, and having been a key member of Arsenal’s title triumph. She is a lifelong Gunners fan and came through the youth ranks at the club.

England face a favourable draw in the Women's World Cup last 16 after they beat 2011 winners Japan to finish top of Group D thanks to two Ellen White goals. Lionesses boss Phil Neville seemingly took a gamble by making eight changes to the side that beat Argentina in the second group game. But in White, who returned to the side, they have a finisher of real class as she scored her 30th and 31st England goals either side of the break from clever through balls. England still stuttered playing out from the back against the 2015 finalists, who beat the Lionesses in the semi-finals four years ago.

England boss Phil Neville said he was "ashamed" by Cameroon's behaviour after a World Cup last-16 victory he said "didn't feel like football".
The Lionesses booked a quarter-final spot against Norway after a 3-0 win.
But the game was marred by Cameroon's extraordinary reaction to two video assistant referee decisions and several poor challenges on England's players.
"I am completely and utterly ashamed of the opposition," Neville said.

FT: ENGLAND 1-2 USA It's all over in Lyon and it is heartbreak for England as they are knocked out of the Women's World Cup. It was a topsy-turvy second half, with England having a goal disallowed for offside, a penalty saved after a four-minute VAR review and a sending off. It was a step too far for the Lionesses, who will now compete for a second successive third-place finish, while the USA have reached a record fifth Women's World Cup final.
