President Trump confirmed reports Friday that his administration is working to help release rapper A$AP Rocky after the entertainer was arrested in Sweden on suspicion of assault charges earlier this month. During an Oval Office event honoring the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, Trump told reporters that he plans to continue reaching out to “friends of his” in Sweden to lobby for the release of Rocky, also known as Rakim Mayers, who’s been in foreign custody since July 2. Trump did not give a more specific timeline on when he thinks the musician might be freed. “We are going to be calling and talking to them, we’ve already started. And many, many members of the African-American community have called me, friends of mine, and said, could you help,” said Trump. “I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky. But I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African-American community in this country. And when I say African-American, I think I can really say from everyone in this country, ’cuz we’re all one. I have been called by so many people asking me to help A$AP Rocky.”

Justin Bieber made a dramatic intervention into US politics on Saturday, comparing the plight of migrant children detained on the southern border to that of the the American rapper A$AP Rocky, who is in custody in Sweden over an alleged assault. The White House is attempting to free A$AP Rocky, at the behest of Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West, to the extent that Donald Trump has offered to “personally vouch for his bail”. Rocky has been held for almost three weeks while Swedish authorities investigate allegations of “gross assault”. Bieber tweeted: “I want my friend out. I appreciate you trying to help him. But while your at it Donald Trump can you also let those kids out of cages?” The Canadian pop star was responding to a Trump tweet posted on Friday in which the president said he would engage in Rocky’s case. On Saturday, Trump duly tweeted that he had “just had a very good call with [Swedish prime minister] Stefan Löfven, who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative.” He went on: “Our teams will be talking further, and we agreed to speak again in the next 48 hours!” In Sweden, Löfven said he was glad to speak with the US about the rapper’s detention but he “cannot and will not attempt to influence prosecutors or courts”.

A$AP Rocky may actually be in even more peril as he lingers in a Swedish jail BECAUSE the U.S. government tried to help him.
The prosecutor has shown no sympathy for A$AP, despite the fact that the person he is accused of assaulting assaulted him first, and it's all on video. Nevertheless, sources connected with the case tell TMZ, the prosecutor has been immovable on the subject of release pending charges, despite the fact that the U.S. State Dept. and now the President of United States got involved.
As we reported, the State Dept. waged a full court press last Thursday, trying to get A$AP out of jail, to no avail. The prosecutor mistakenly played his hand Friday when he released a statement an indictment will be filed against Rocky. His office said it was a mistake to say that, but the intentions are clear.
Sources connected to the case actually think intervention by the State Dept. and the President -- who essentially said he would guarantee bail if they would release Rocky -- could actually BACKFIRE because they are trying to get in the prosecutor's business.
The Swedish Prime Minister as much as said so Saturday, after Trump got him on the horn and lobbied for A$AP's release, telling Trump about "the complete independence of the Swedish judicial system, prosecutors and courts." A spokesperson for the PM said, "He [the PM] underlined that in Sweden everyone is equal before the law and that the government cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings."

As A$AP Rocky awaits his fate in a Swedish detention center, the Swedish prosecutor's office announced on Monday that one of the two men involved in a June 30 street fight with the rapper and his companions will not face charges.
The decision comes as a response to a "counter-investigation" or complaint filed by the American rapper's bodyguard against one of the two men.
The bodyguard, whose name has not been disclosed by prosecutors, was present during the fight but was not detained.
“The person who filed the counter-complaint repeatedly asks the other person to leave. When he refuses to leave, the other person first pushes him away and then takes a grip around the other persons neck and lifts him away a few meters. In this situation, the person throws his headphones on the notifier, and tries to hand out battles, which may be considered as self-defense," senior public prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement.

President Trump is sticking up for A$AP Rocky by dressing down the Swedish Prime Minister ... the Prez says he's very disappointed Sweden's leader didn't step in to help A$AP skirt an assault charge. POTUS just went on a Twitter tantrum against the European nation and its government ... demanding the Swedes give A$AP his freedom and telling Sweden to fix crime in their country. Trump says he's "very disappointed" Sweden's Prime Minister was unable to act, and he says the inaction has let down the African-American community in the United States. The Prez claims he's watched the video footage of A$AP's street brawl in Stockholm, which shows him trying to play peacemaker before finally losing his cool and absolutely pummeling his attacker, who has a criminal record.
