Like most attempts at wrangling old friends for a gathering, this one started with a group text. But those can become a graveyard of noncommitments, so to persuade their former “Beverly Hills, 90210” costars to reunite on the small screen, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth (a.k.a Donna Martin and Kelly Taylor) opted for a more personalized touch: They made gift bags. “I was like, ‘Really? We’re giving them gift bags?’” Garth recalls, looking over to Spelling, who concocted the idea. “And I was like — ‘It’s funny! It’s cute!’ ” Spelling says. In the minutes before their formal pitch to the actors at CBS Television Studios, which owns the rights to the series, the duo scrambled to assemble the giveaways. The contents included a snow globe, as well as Barbie and Ken dolls haphazardly fashioned to resemble the characters — a Sharpie helped achieve Brandon Walsh’s dark coif and sideburns; one doll’s mane was cut to mimic Andrea Zuckerman’s chin-length bob. Not that it mattered in the end. Garth and Spelling, who previously teamed up for the 2014 ABC Family sitcom “Mystery Girls,” had been looking for another comedic project to work on together, and, as alumni of a landmark teen soap, the cast has long been followed by questions about a reunion. With the help of Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler, both of whom worked with Spelling on her meta comedy “So Notorious,” they began hashing out ways to merge the two ideas last spring.

In the upcoming BH90210, the cast of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 are reuniting for a mockumentary meta-dramedy in which they will play fictionalized versions of themselves as they attempt to reboot their beloved '90s teen drama.
While the premise may be a bit confusing at first, the self-referential and uniquely self-aware format is going to give the cast a chance to poke fun at themselves and some of their past controversies and feuds.
ET's Nischelle Turner recently spoke with stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth at the highly anticipated Peach Pit promotional pop-up cafe in Los Angeles, and they revealed that one of the famous on-set dramas that will be addressed is Spelling and Garth's infamous feud with Shannen Doherty.
"You know, you have to embrace everything, even the bad things," said Garth. "So, I think we were all on board to look at people's perceptions of us and flip it and take the power back."
According to Spelling, while there was some bad blood, a lot of the drama was perpetuated by media coverage looking for headlines. With BH90210, they're going to lean into those false perceptions for the sake of exploring their fictionalize selves.

Wednesday’s long-awaited premiere of BH90210 reunited the stars of Beverly Hills, 90210 like we’ve never seen them before. And that’s not an exaggeration — it’s actually the entire concept of the show. To put it simply, the Fox reboot stars (in alphabetical order) Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering as fictionalized versions of themselves, brought back together to celebrate their iconic soap’s 30th anniversary at a fan convention in Las Vegas. (Doherty is unable to attend the event, but the moderator surprises everyone by broadcasting her Instagram live stream on the screen behind them… for some reason.) As the premiere rolls on, we gradually discover that everyone’s personal lives are falling apart: Spelling and her husband (played by Ivan Sergei) are drowning in debt after the cancellation of their latest reality venture; Garth’s (third) husband is filing for divorce; Priestley’s wife (played by Vanessa Lachey) is more interested in being his publicist than his partner; Green feels overshadowed by his wife, R&B superstar Shay (played by La La Anthony); and Ziering’s Real Housewives-bound wife accidentally FaceTimes him while having sex with someone else. Oof!

Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth are confident that Beverly Hills, 90210 producer — and Tori’s dad — Aaron Spelling would approve of the quasi-revival, BH90210. “I think he would be super proud. First of all, he’d be really proud that Jennie and I did this, that we went on this journey and it was no easy journey,” Tori said at Us Weekly’s video suite at the TV Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday, August 7. “It took us two years to get this whole thing put together. But I think he would get it. I feel really confident that we have created something groundbreaking and that’s what he loved to do and he loved storytelling and entertaining and that’s what we do.”
