Only three times has Miranda Lambert been nominated for a CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year, with her last in 2015. But she isn't advocating for another nomination for herself. Instead, Lambert has been very vocal about why Carrie Underwood deserves the trophy for the night's highest honor, because of everything but Underwood's gender.
"I was just sitting on my magic porch, I call it, and it's where I do reflecting or writing, or drinking wine or having fun," Lambert told Taste of Country. "It's got good juju. It had been bothering me a little bit. I just felt ... this emotion was welling up in me that was so supportive. Because we started at the same time. Both of our first records and songs came out in 2005. And so much has happened in that 15 years or whatever, and I just feel like with all that she does ... When you think about Entertainer of the Year, I've never won that, and she hasn't won it either. Only five women have ever won it.
"But it wasn't about being a woman," she continued. "I'm not waving that flag. It was about, if you think of what Entertainer of the Year encompasses for the year, and how you represented country music in the public eye. She's got a brand. She's a mom, and that's her own brand. She's a working mom. She does Monday Night Football, and she tours with all females. And she tours like rock and roll, like every other day. I'm weekend warrior over here. I'm like, 'I'll see you on Thursday and Saturday.' This girl's on the road with two babies, a husband. All of this going on."
Underwood has also hosted the CMA Awards twice while pregnant, and will take the helm this year with help from Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.

For Miranda Lambert's seventh studio album, she chose the name Wildcard, even though that isn't a title of any of the 14 tracks on the record. But for Lambert, who has endured many ups and downs over her 16-year career, with many happening in the last few years, Wildcard was the only name that made sense for the record.
“I got a tattoo last October of the wildcard,” Lambert told Entertainment Tonight. “[It’s] a reminder that I'm queen of my own heart and I pulled out a few wildcards in my life so far – whether it's relationships or getting out of something that's bad for you, going with your gut and doing something that's a risk and it being rewarding. So, I felt like with this album and all that comes with it, it felt like a great title.”
Lambert did reference Wildcard in the lyric in "Bluebird," which says, in part, "And if the house just keeps on winning / I got a wildcard up my sleeve." After The Weight of These Wings released in 2016, Lambert immediately began working on what would become Wildcard, unaware that she would wait three long years before seeing the project come to fruition.
“I wasn't really sure how to take a break because I haven't [before],” Lambert acknowledged. “I felt like you have to fall in love with it again and you can't do that if you don't miss it. I didn't choose the break – my manager suggested it strongly, and she was right because I was a little tired.”

Miranda Lambert's Wildcard, released on Nov. 1, enters Billboard's Top Country Albums chart (dated Nov. 16) at No. 1, becoming her seventh total and consecutive leader on the list, encompassing her entire chart output. In its first week, ending Nov. 7, the set earned 53,000 equivalent album units, with 44,000 in album sales, according to Nielsen Music. As Lambert lands her seventh No. 1 on Top Country Albums, all of which have arrived in the penthouse, she matches Carrie Underwood as the only artists in the list's 55-year-history to reign in seven career-opening appearances. Underwood added her seventh out-of-the-gate No. 1 when Cry Pretty opened atop the tally dated Sept. 29, 2018.

Miranda Lambert's words paint a picture, literally. Give her a chance to share the stories of her new Wildcard album and she'll talk for days ... or at least until another interview pulls her away. The "It All Comes Out in the Wash" hitmaker released Wildcard on Nov. 1 and recently had the chance to go deep on a few hidden gems from her seventh studio album. She also explains why working with producer Jay Joyce is intimidating and how the most recent Pistol Annies album freed her heart to create a more playful soundscape. http://instagram.com/p/B45deYanEtU Speaking with Taste of Country on the way to a tour stop in Florida, the sometimes mercurial country singer used the word "happy" no fewer than seven times. "Love" topped that at 11 uses, but the reason she's here came in at No. 1, with 15 uses. It's all positive, as you can see in the word cloud illustration above. Kind of relief in a way, because you have anxiety leading up to it. Every time I release a record I get a level of nervousness and excitement but … when it goes out there in the world and there’s no control anymore it’s like, “Okay, it does what it does.”

Miranda Lambert's latest release, Wildcard, entered the Billboard Top Country Albums chart in the top position, tying a record held by fellow country music star Carrie Underwood.
Wildcard sold 53,000 equivalent albums in its first week, 44,000 of that sum in traditional album sales, according to Billboard. Those numbers allowed Lambert's newest album to debut at No. 1, making Wildcard her seventh consecutive chart-topping album. Both she and Underwood have now had their first seven albums top the Top Country Albums — the only two artists in that chart's 55-year history to do so. (Underwood added her seventh No. 1 album on the chart with the release of 2018's acclaimed Cry Pretty album.)
Lambert's Wildcard is the country singer's first release since her 2016 album The Weight of These Wings. That double-disc LP arrived at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart with 122,000 units sold. Lambert's first release to top the chart was 2005's Kerosene, followed by 2007's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, then Revolution in 2009, Four the Record in 2011 and Platinum in 2014.
