Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was stripped of her team gold medal due to a doping scandal that was discovered during the 2022 Beijing Olympics, is expected to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Valieva was suspended for four years from December 25, 2021, and was disqualified from all competitions she participated in after that date. As a result of the decision, the team's gold medal at the Beijing Olympics was also stripped.
However, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is not satisfied and plans to file a lawsuit with CAS regarding the International Skating Union's (ISU) gold medal stripping. Furthermore, Valieva's side also decided to make a move.
The Russian state news agency "RIA Novosti" reported the opinion of Dmitry Sbishchev, chairman of the State Sports Commission. "We discussed this issue, including with Kamila Valieva. Lawyers now have the opportunity to challenge all decisions taken illegally. Lawyers and the Federation are preparing a strong opinion. ``This will affect a change in the court's decision.''
