Disney+ is returning to the musical world of Stargirl, its YA romantic drama that premiered on the platform almost a year ago. The streamer is bringing back much of the creative team behind the original movie, including star Grace VanderWaal and director Julia Hart, who will this time be joined by actor Elijah Richardson as well as composer-musician Michael Penn, the latter who will write and perform original music for the film. The 2020 movie adapted the best-selling book by Jerry Spinelli and told of a boy living in Mica, Arizona, who wishes nothing more than an anonymous existence but whose life is turned upside down when he meets and falls for an unusual and colorful girl named Stargirl. Grace VanderWaal Talks Being Inspired by Ariana Grande, 'Stargirl,' New Music at WIM 2018: Watch Hart and Jordan Horowitz, who co-wrote the initial adaptation with Kirsten Hahn, have written the original script follows Stargirl's journey out of Mica and into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibility. VanderWaal, who will reprise her role as Stargirl, will write and perform original music for this outing with Richard playing the romantic lead. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman of Gotham Group return as producers while Horowitz will produce for Hart & Horowitz’s company Original Headquarters. Hahn and Spinelli are executive producers. Penn will also act as the new project’s executive music producer. Jeanne McCarthy and Nicole Abellera are currently casting the movie. Like other streamers, Disney+ does not give viewership numbers or guidance on how it counts “views.” However, the making of a sequel does auger that it was somewhat of a success. The sequel also becomes the first Disney+ feature production to get a follow up.

Grace VanderWaal isn't seeing stars, she's seeing dollar signs ... because we've learned she's getting paid a nice chunk of change for her lead role in "Stargirl."
The 17-year-old singer is off to a pretty strong start financially in her acting career after securing top billing in the Disney+ movie, "Stargirl." According to her minor's contract, obtained by TMZ, Grace took home a base salary of $125,000 for the first film, and it looks like she's got a bigger payday on the horizon for the upcoming sequel.
Grace is in line to double her earnings for the second 'Stargirl' movie ... the contract says she'll get paid a cool $250,000 to reprise her role as Stargirl Caraway, and Disney says the sequel is already in development.
We'll do the math for ya ... Grace will earn at least $375,000 just in base pay for both films. And, if there's a third film, she'll rake in $500,000. Yes, it pays well to be a Disney star.
Fat paydays are nothing new for Grace who, at the tender age of 12, banked $1 million for winning "America's Got Talent."
