Taylor Swift is joining The Voice. The superstar will return to the role of "mega mentor" for season 17 of the NBC singing competition series. Swift's role was announced by returning The Voice coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton on Instagram. In her role, Swift will join coaches Shelton, Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani to mentor the contestants and prepare the teams for the Knockout Rounds. Those begin in late October. During the Knockouts, the artists are paired with a teammate and select their own songs to perform individually. Swift will be there to work with all four teams, providing feedback, suggestions and praise in advance of the performances. The coaches alone pick the winner during the Knockouts. The artist not selected then become available to be stolen by another coach. This season each coach only steal during the Knockouts. The Knockouts were not part of season 16. Swift was previously Mega Mentor during season seven of The Voice. The 10-time Grammy winner also performed "ME!" during the season 16 finale.

Gwen Stefani isn’t angry about Taylor Swift becoming a mentor on the newest season of The Voice, despite an untrue tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the phony drama. There’s simply no truth to it. Stefani is returning as a coach on the reality competition show for the first time in five seasons, and according to Life & Style, she’s upset that Swift will be serving as a mentor to all the teams in the knockout phase of the competition. The tabloid claims Stefani thinks Swift is stealing her spotlight, quoting an alleged source saying, “This was supposed to be [Stefani’s] big comeback. She doesn’t want anyone stealing her thunder.” According to the outlet, the other coaches for the show’s 17th Season, Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson have all “welcomed Taylor with open arms,” but Stefani “made it clear that doesn’t want her getting any special treatment.” This entire narrative is wildly inaccurate. Stefani and Swift have been friendly for years, at least going back to the last time Swift served as a mentor on The Voice, back during its seventh season. That was Stefani’s first season as a coach on the show, and in the years since, the two have remained pals. In fact, Stefani reacted fondly to the news of Swift joining The Voice again during a recent interview with People magazine. The No Doubt singer noted, “I think Taylor’s gift is more her songwriting, and I feel like that’s the same for me so I thought we related to each other a lot.” Stefani went on to say that Swift “had so much to offer” the first time she participated on the show, and added, “She’s just so relatable in the way she writes, especially to girls — and to me.” That’s certainly very high praise from a person who clearly isn’t upset about sharing screen time with Swift. Additionally, sources involved in the production of the show assure Gossip Cop that Stefani and Swift get along great.

The Voice Season 17 continued with part four blind auditions on Tuesday (Oct. 1)—allowing returning coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, as well as returning alum Gwen Stefani, to take cracks at their initial team builds. Shelton and Stefani are, of course, well-known as a romantic couple, so the season was already set up as a fun game watching the two argue it out over the contestants they dually find worthy.
Jordan Chase, a handsome teen with waist-length hair, turned out to be the catalyst to get the two battling lovers/coaches warring this evening.
"I was born in Pensacola, Fla. I was 5 when I moved to New Orleans," Chase explained in his intro segment. "Living in New Orleans was amazing. So much culture. Music was such a big influence. You'd walk down the street, and you'd always hear music.
And then the hurricane hit. It all just, like, came to a halt. We had to leave and start all over."
Chase's mom related that they watched their son withdraw as a result of the devastation he'd experienced, so they adopted a therapy dog for him and also encouraged his leanings toward music. It definitely helped:
"I was so insecure. Music helped me express myself," Chase noted. "One Christmas, I asked for a drum set. Drums led to bass, and then the music took off...I'm good now. I am ready to take on the world."
The teen made his first forays into that goal, delivering a smooth version of Drake White's "Makin' Me Look Good Again." Shelton hit his button, followed by Stefani at the last minute. Oh boy, grab the popcorn.
Shelton, chuckling at the way things shook out, noted, "Jordan, when you sing, it's incredible, because a lot of times, when somebody has that sandpaper voice, they don't have the range that you have and they don't have the accuracy. They don't have the quickness. Me fighting for you means... I'm probably gonna pay for this later. That's how much I love you."

Taylor Swift had no idea what she was in for when she agreed to serve as a mega mentor on The Voice again. The 29-year-old "Lover" singer is working with Kelly Clarkson on the NBC show to help out her team when she is overcome with emotion upon hearing contestant Melinda Rodriguez's story about her brother. While Rodriguez chooses to sing Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby," she reveals that she's most excited to be working with Swift as her brother is her biggest fan. After revealing that he has a tattoo to represent every one of her albums, Rodriguez shares that he was called in to get a heart transplant that day, while she was working with the pop stars. This news causes Swift to gasp and Clarkson to break down in tears. "He said, 'You can't leave [The Voice] because what if [the mega mentor is] Taylor Swift,'" Rodriguez says her brother told her of missing his transplant surgery. "This song definitely goes out to my brother because to see Taylor there today when he's undergoing heart surgery, I just thought, 'How is this happening?' Chris has to wake up because there's no way I can't tell him about this. That'd be the world's biggest injustice." Rodriguez tells Clarkson and Swift that her brother told her, "'Don't be selfish, you're doing this for me, not for you.'" Swift then insists that she and Clarkson get an address so they can send him some gifts. Further proving that she comes from a family of Swifties, Rodriguez notes that she has a matching "fearless" tattoo with her brother.
