On the 28th, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy held a press conference with Kyodo News and some other Asian media at the presidential palace in the capital Kyiv (Kiev), where he clarified that he would not agree to a ceasefire unless Russia withdrew its troops from Ukraine. There are moves in Europe and the US to seek a ceasefire, but Zelenskiy denies this. He expressed concern that the situation in Palestine in the Middle East has become tense and interest in an invasion is decreasing. He expressed his expectations for the outcome of the Japan-Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Promotion Conference to be held in Tokyo in February next year.
"We could have saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of soldiers," Russian aide says after ceasefire talks stall
Mr. Zelenskiy asserted that a cease-fire without Russian troops withdrawing is nothing more than a "freezing of the conflict," and that Russia will buy time and recover its forces before launching another attack to seize territory. "Russia does not want peace," he said.
Regarding the ceasefire theory that is spreading in Europe and the United States, he criticized the idea of ``cutting off one's hand and handing it over to someone else,'' and asserted that he had no intention of seeking peace by ceding territory.

Four days mark six months since the Ukrainian military launched its large-scale counterattack. Although Ukrainian forces managed to break through some of the Russian defense lines, the war remained at a stalemate for several months. Amid the prospect of a long war, a feud has surfaced between Zelenskiy's government and the military. Ukraine is at a critical juncture, with some seeing it as a destabilizing attempt by Russia to divide the country.

In an interview reported in November by the British magazine The Economist, General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Zarzhny pointed out that the war was at a "stalemate" and technological innovations in weapons were needed to break the war. In response, President Zelenskyy responded at a press conference, saying, ``This is not a stalemate.''
It is said that Mr. Zarzhny, who is highly popular with the people, could become Mr. Zelensky's rival if he turns to politics. Amidst the debate over whether next year's presidential election will be held, members of the ruling party have publicly called on Zarzhini to resign.

Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, Ukraine, has publicly criticized President Zelensky for his continued mismanagement and that he will eventually be overthrown.
According to the British Telegraph on the 3rd (local time), Klitschko said this in interviews with the German weekly magazine Der Spiegel and the Swiss daily 20 Minuten.
``President Zelensky is gradually becoming more authoritarian,'' Klitschko said, ``only the independence of mayors and governors is stopping Ukraine from becoming an authoritarian state.''
``People want to know why Ukraine was not better prepared for war,'' he said, pointing out that ``President Zelenskiy could not have foreseen the war until the very end.''
Klitschko continued: "President Zelensky will pay the price for the mistakes he made. In the end, he will be ousted." However, Klitschko stressed the importance of not replacing the president in a war situation.
In response, President Zelensky's opponents have recently increased their level of criticism of President Zelensky, noting that the counterattack against Russia has reached a stalemate, that he has failed to clean up corruption, and that he has lost the support of the international community, according to The Telegraph.
Klitschko, who has been the mayor of Ukraine's capital Kiev since 2014, is also seen as a rival to President Zelensky.

On the 5th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy canceled a scheduled video conference with members of the U.S. Congress at the last minute. The reason is not clear. In the United States, aid to Ukraine has stalled.
Zelenskiy was scheduled to appear virtually before both houses of the U.S. Congress that day, but canceled it at short notice.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) did not explain why Zelensky was not in attendance. He said his hands were apparently occupied with "urgent" matters, but declined to elaborate.
