Though her second season in the senior ranks was not an easy one for Elena Radionova, she fought through the experience and now feels she has achieved a level of maturity. Injuries and physical changes took their toll mentally on the 17-year-old. Radionova grew so much last season that she needed to get a new long program costume after Russian nationals because the old one no longer fit. Last year Radionova’s performances did not look as effortless on the ice as in previous seasons, but she nevertheless held it together, winning medals in all her competitions except Worlds, where she finished fifth. “Indeed, the season was not easy. But I’m glad that I was able to go through some difficulties,” Radionova said. “Not everything worked out, but that makes my character stronger. I bear in mind the mistakes I made and I will try to perfect my skating next season.” Radionova said that she feels that in some ways she was not well enough prepared. Looking back at the tough competition at Worlds she now understands that she could have skated with more ease and more power in order to earn more points. Known for her consistency and for landing triple-triples effortlessly, Radionova has had to overcome personal disappointment because things are not so easy anymore. “At first I was upset. My character is like that — I want it all, or nothing. Every athlete wants to show his or her best. But then I started to look at things a bit differently. I started to evaluate the situation and what happened and now I hope that everything will be fine. You just have to work hard and move on.” That mindset helped her push through last season. “I realized it would be hard. So what? For whom it is easy? You have to fight. I would be easier to sit down and give up, but that is not in my character. I have always been used to fighting and to persevere. I made the top three in all competitions, except for Worlds. I knew that I could be in the top three there and that I could fight for a high placement. Radionova, a thoughtful and well-spoken young lady, is writing her final exams in mid-June. She is determined to excel in that area as well. “I have developed my individual self. When you get older, you have you own opinion, but I always had one. Now I just can articulate it more clearly,” the Moscow native said.

- In the adult world championship debut in Shanghai Lena it was with the temperature, and won a medal. Exit through the athlete "can not" - the phenomenon is quite familiar, as you may have noticed, the sport does not hold other. But: the child, temperature, overload? - And where did you get the idea that she had a high fever? - So you said immediately after the speech. I quote: "And - well - as we boarded the bus, which was carrying the rink before the start, and it was, crawled temperature of 38. No, this is not nervous, have a runny nose, she sneezes. Doctors do what they can, she also. We all do what we can. " - All right, but she had a temperature at night, and doctors worked with Lena. And outputs it to act, of course, without a fever. The most important word in this situation - the word doctor. - But the lower the temperature - is not present for the organism. - I, probably, by the way, in Shanghai was more upset than Lena, believe me. And conclusions - walk away, calm down, everything will be fine. Naturally, if the choice was: health or performance, it would be health. Certainly. No one would in any country in the world has forced the athlete to get out on the ice in a serious condition, everyone is looking forward to the future. - Lena - yet still a teenager, though wise and purposeful, it puts you in a dead end as a coach, a grown man, at last? - Do not remember so just a fun event to entertain the audience. But I can say that all face similar: you think you know the person inside and out, but it turns out - you do not know the half. The students are usually surprised? Begin to cheat, but before unquestioningly obeyed, suddenly want to "push through" something of their own. When myself in this sense you catch, it is that you do not ready. And there is a rethinking, begin to rebuild themselves. It is not easy, but necessary, because everything will be different. - You have a solo? - Yes. However, the samples were in the dance, I danced on the floor, in the ensemble of "Sputnik" by Igor Moiseyev. - Coaching daring enough to take a couple or duets? - This is a separate and very interesting world, but I do not see the need. Maybe. I do not renounce. - Career coach held, but in life formed and career growth in the bank - from the simple to the deputy chief cashier credit-card deposit to the big salary and prospects. During the time that you stand for all to see at the boards, not the feeling of regret: Oh, I had to sit in the bank?

Hi Elena! It’s been one year since you visited Riedell in Red Wing, MN. Can you tell us about how your life has changed since your visit? Well the biggest change is I’m graduating High School! I have been waiting for exam results right now and University (College) will start next year. My studies will focus on Physical Education – Sports Science. And how is your dog? He is good. I wanted to bring him to the US but it is too long of a flight for him and he has an easy life at home. I really like to spend time with my dog and he cheers me up and helps with stress. Tell us more about your plans for this trip to North America? I have been waiting a long time for this trip because I really like visiting Minnesota. I came to be refitted for skates and to meet with Riedell. I hope to have some fun with friends and get in some business meetings while in MN. What was your favorite memory from last season? I’m certain that there isn’t just one but probably my most favorite memory was the day when I won the Grand Prix – Russian Cup because it was a season’s best. It made me very happy. Is there anything that you can share with us about your plans/goals/aspirations for next season? Can you give Team Riedell any previews of 2017? I hope to continue to improve at my sport, learn some new elements, and make a new program that challenges me to keep growing. I want to continue to develop myself and not stay in one place.

Which elements are you working on for next season? All kinds of new jump combos—I’m still in the process of learning, so I’m not sure what will end up in my program but I will let you know as soon as the program is finished. This year I also hope to get my driving license and drive a car, learn some English so that I don’t need a translator when I’m in the US, and get my braces off! Last season, I was so busy and had stuff like show programs lined up right after competition and exams so I didn’t get any rest. I only took one week off. In the US, skaters keep skating right through but in Russia it is a little bit different and skaters usually take 2-3 weeks off at the end of their season. I didn’t get a chance to do that this year because of commitments. Maybe this year will be different but because I didn’t take a rest I can now focus more on my new program and choreography rather than getting back into habits and catch up.

The bronze medalist of the World Championship Elena Radionova spoke about the preparations for the next season and the formulation of programs to the famous coach Shae-Lynn Bourne in Canada. "I spent a week in Toronto. I brought with them a few options for the music program. First Shae-Lynn listened, selected, tried different steps on the ice, skated a lot to see, to feel, what kind of music to me is more suitable. All the time I was in touch with the coach Inna Germanova (Goncharenko - approx.). And when we Shae-Lynn chose his version, I have consulted with their coaches, and after Germanovna Ina said, "Take," we started setting. For me to work with Shae-Lynn was a real pleasure. I was surprised that it parses each movement to the smallest detail, a lot is riding with an athlete, be an example of how to program itself, constantly asking if it will be convenient? We worked hard all day. And I am very worried about how the program will accept the house? I'm glad that she liked. Now it only remains to roll. Above any work ", - she said in an interview Radionova the official website Figure Skating Federation of Russia.
