Sometimes a remake is so good you almost forget what the original sounded like. That's the case on the new version of "The Bones," released on Friday (Oct. 4), which features soulful vocals from Hozier on the top 15 hit from Maren Morris' Girl album.
The wistful song -- about hanging on to a deep love through good times and bad -- finds the two singers trading off on the verses and weaving their vocals together on the hope-filled chorus: "When the bones are good, the rest don't matter/ Yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter/ Let it rain 'cause you and I remain the same/ When there ain't a crack in the foundation/ Baby, I know any storm we're facing/ Will blow right over while we stay put."
"When I first heard ‘Like Real People Do’ I think I could actually hear my heart breaking and then immediately felt songwriter envy that I didn’t write it first," Morris said in a statement about the collaboration, with a nod to the literary inspiration of the tune from Hozier's 2014 self-titled debut album. "Hozier’s soul and vulnerability is so arresting and fit so well with the foundational theme of my song ‘The Bones.’ I feel so grateful to have him on it.”
