The foreign secretary has spoken to his US counterpart over the case of an American diplomat's wife who claimed immunity and left the UK after becoming a suspect in a police investigation. Boris Johnson says he hopes Anne Sacoolas, who was accused of killing a British teenager in a car crash, will return - and will raise it with the White House if she does not.  Dominic Raab discussed the matter with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo - alongside other issues including Brexit, Hong Kong, Syria and Iran. A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson said Mr Raab "reiterated his disappointment with the US decision and urged them to reconsider". The prime minister said 19-year-old Harry Dunn's death after he was hit by a car outside RAF Croughton, Northamptonshire, on 27 August was a "tragic loss". Anne Sacoolas, who is the main suspect, left the UK after claiming diplomatic immunity as her husband, Jonathan Sacoolas, works at the US spy base. Police believe Mrs Sacoolas, who has three children, drove out of the airbase on to the wrong side of the road, hitting the teenager head on. |

Trump's secret briefing notes appear to have revealed that the wife of the US intelligence agent embroiled a diplomatic immunity row will not return to the UK.  The President had pledged to "find a way forward" after a British boy was killed in a car crash allegedly involving the wife of an American diplomat. During a phone call with Boris Johnson on Wednesday, Mr Trump said he was committed to finding a solution as soon as possible following the death of Harry Dunn and wished to send his condolences to the family.  But a press briefing in the White House on Wednesday night, Mr Trump appeared to defend the diplomat’s wife by saying that Americans driving on the other side of the road in the UK "happens". And photographs taken of the President's briefing notes, labelled secret at the top of the memo, appear to show the US' stance is uncompromising. |

The White House has asked for an urgent meeting later on Tuesday with the family of Harry Dunn, who was allegedly killed in a crash involving the wife of a US diplomat. Anne Sacoolas - the American motorist suspected of colliding with Mr Dunn - fled back to America shortly after the incident in August. A wife of an intelligence officer, she is said to be covered by diplomatic immunity, though that protection is now in dispute. On Tuesday, Harry Dunn's family's spokesperson, Radd Seiger tweeted to say that they had all been invited to a meeting at the White House.  In a statement, Mr Dunn's family said they were "grateful for the invitation, which we hope represents a positive development in our fight for justice. "Our priority, as any parent will understand, is justice for our child.  "We believe this can only be achieved if Anne Sacoolas returns to England and engages properly with the justice system, where she will be treated fairly in a proper investigation of what happened to our son on that day - an investigation that cannot happen without her co-operation. “Friends tell each other the truth. "If Britain and America are friends then we believe there should be no possibility of a citizen of one country hiding from justice in another while falsely claiming a privilege such as diplomatic immunity." |

Donald Trump has said Boris Johnson asked him to set up a surprise meeting in the White House between the parents of the teenager Harry Dunn and the woman suspected of killing him in a road traffic collision. The president also claimed lawyers may have stymied his efforts to bring them together.  But a spokesman for Tim Dunn and Charlotte Charles blamed Trump’s national security adviser, Richard O’Brien, for the failed stunt and called him a “nincompoop”. The recriminations broke out after Trump on Tuesday invited the grieving parents to a meeting at the White House and, in what the family described as a bombshell, revealed that the woman involved in the crash, Anne Sacoolas, was waiting in the room next door to meet them and personally apologise. They said Trump pressed them two or three times to go ahead with the “healing meeting”. |

 Harry Dunn's parents say they expect UK police to charge a US diplomat's wife in connection with his death. Mr Dunn, 19, died after a collision with a car owned by Anne Sacoolas, who was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road. His parents Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn travelled to the US as part of their campaign for justice and met President Donald Trump. Mrs Sacoolas, 42, went back to the US after the crash in Northamptonshire. Mr Dunn's family is due back in the UK later, after their trip to the US to seek justice, following the crash outside RAF Croughton - where Mrs Sacoolas' husband is reportedly stationed as an intelligence officer - on 27 August. At the time, Mrs Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity, but both the British and US governments agree that by returning to the US she had forfeited that right. |
