Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaia plans to perform three triple axels in two programs at the stage of the Grand Prix series in France. The 16-year-old Russian woman declared one triple axel in the short program content, a triple axel cascade in the free content - a double toe loop, as well as a solo triple axel. Alena Kostornaia is the only one of the participants who intends to perform the elements of ultra-si in France. Recall that at the Finlandia Trophy victory tournament, she performed two triple axels in a free program. At the French Grand Prix, compatriot and teammate of Kostornaia Olympic champion Alina Zagitova will also perform. Women will present a short program on November 1 at 20:10 Moscow time.

Internationaux de France also marks the Grand Prix season debuts for Zagitova and Papadakis and Cizeron. The 17-year-old Zagitova, the only skater who is a reigning Olympic and world champion, must this season stave off a group of younger Russian teens armed with triple Axels or quads. Zagitova, who has never landed a triple Axel or quad in competition, faces one of them this week in Alena Kostornaia, who landed two triple Axels (one under-rotated) in her senior international debut last month. Papadakis and Cizeron aren’t feeling nearly as much heat going into their full-fledged season debut. They haven’t lost to a dance couple other than the recently retired Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in almost five years. Look for them to chase this number: 209.55 — Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue‘s world-leading score for the season set at Skate America. Hubbell and Donohue aren’t in Grenoble, but U.S. silver medalists Madison Chock and Evan Bates could be the closest to the French this weekend. Later Friday, 16-year-old Alena Kostornaia landed an under-rotated triple Axel in her senior Grand Prix debut, tallied 76.55 and took a 2.31 lead over Olympic and world champion Alina Zagitova going into Saturday’s free skate. Ladies Short Program | Internationaux de France 2019 | #GPFigure The 15-year-old Russian delivered a solid performance on Friday, demonstrating the most technically complicated program in which she landed a triple axel. Kostornaia is looking to become the third straight first-year senior Russian to win on the Grand Prix this season after 15-year-olds Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova, who landed quads at Skate America and Skate Canada, respectively. Kostornaia, who coped perfectly with all of her jumping elements, posted a score of 76,55 points, which turned out to be unbeatable for the rest of her opponents. Zagitova, 17, had the back end of her triple Lutz-triple loop combination called under-rotated. Zagitova currently sits in second place with 74,24 points. The competition will conclude on Saturday after the female skaters demonstrate their free programs.

Ice Dance Rhythm Dance | Internationaux de France 2019 France’s four-time World Champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron shone in the Rhythm Dance as they took a confident lead at the Internationaux de France in Grenoble on Friday. Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) came second, edging Italy’s Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri. Papadakis/Cizeron got the crowd going with their entertaining aerobic-themed dance to ‘Fame’, dressed in workout outfits complete with a headband for Cizeron. The five-time European Champions collected a level four for the twizzles and the stationary lift as well as a level three for the Finnstep pattern dance and the midline step sequence to score 88.69 points. “It was a fun performance. We were quite nervous, because it was our first competition, but I think we were very lucky that it was in France. The audience was very responsive and very supportive, so it helped during the performance. We made a couple of small mistakes, so we have some things to work on for the next one,” Papadakis said. Cizeron added: “It’s really fun for us that it is really different. It’s different from what everyone else is doing and it’s different from what we’ve been doing. It was a kind of a challenge to work on this program and make it fun.”
