A One Direction concert in Peru proved dangerous to 47 young fans who were treated for asphyxia. Over the weekend, tents were used as emergency treatment centers at Estadio Nacional stadium in Lima after concertgoers rushed to get close to the front of the 40,000 capacity stadium.
While One Direction urged the crowd to calm down during their performance, the pushing never stopped, and up to 47 fans were treated after the show. “We treated 47 children aged 12 to 15 for symptoms of asphyxia,” Mario Cassareto, the head of Peru’s fire service, told Peruvian radio. According to Sky News, One Direction repeatedly warned fans to calm down or they would be forced to end their concert early.

Peruvian fans of the British boy band One Direction got a chance to meet their idols on Tuesday during a visit to the archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu. (April 29) As Harry Styles and Liam Payne visited the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, fellow tourists were delighted to snap pictures of the One Direction stars at Peru's most famous site. While the young stars soaked up the view - and even photobombed a couple of keen tourists - they added a certain star appeal to the Unesco World Heritage Sit. But they're not the only celebrities to visit the 15th-century ruins, which were lost to the jungle when the city was deserted by its Inca inhabitants. Ever since American archeologist Hiram Bingham rediscovered Machu Picchu in 1911, the great and the good have flocked to visit the Peruvian site. One Direction's unanticipated world domination is an astonishing feat. This is an act that came third on The X Factor back in 2010. The public were only half on-board with their brand of boyband cheekiness at that point, but playing a third sold-out night at Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 fans leaves no doubt that 1D have come very far since, and then some. The boys are undoubtedly delighted to be on stage, even if their collected calmness makes it appear like they are casually having larks in the sixth form common room. It lands on a scale of Zayn Malik looking distant to Harry Styles sauntering like a young rockstar in the making, launching mouthfuls of water across the stage. They each have their role, with Liam Payne's sincere speeches of thanks delighting the crowd and Louis Tomlinson's natural charisma holding attention during the longer intervals. 'What Makes You Beautiful' fulfils its destiny for a full-blown stadium outing, the guitars ramped up and the beats pounding louder - One Direction's resistance to pursue faddy dance-pop three years ago realising its full value. 'You and I' is a particular highlight during the encore, with Zayn hitting that high falsetto effortlessly, and rousing folk ballad 'Story of My Life' bathes in the thousands of lit-up phones across the stadium. As a finale of 'Best Song Ever' echoes out of Wembley Stadium's iconic confines, One Direction's fate as a bonafide music phenomenon is sealed. They join a legacy that includes Madonna, Muse and Take That by playing the world-famous venue, and while their ascent to the top has been swift, they have taken it all in their stride, never letting the intense pressure get the better of them - and that, to quote Louis Walsh, is what you call star quality.
