Selena Gomez was a good tease on her Instagram last night, but she didn't leave the public hanging long for what her big news is today. The singer announced the release date of her second solo album: January 10, 2020. It appears on her site, and the album, which has 13 tracks, is available for pre-order on Apple Music.
Gomez revealed something huge was coming last night, writing, "Something exciting is coming tomorrow. ✨" She posted a series of black and white photos of her. Fans were hyped and many speculating it was an official album release date that Gomez would be sharing:
Gomez hasn't broken her social media silence yet on the news, but this post will be updated when she does with any additional new details.
Gomez told Jimmy Fallon in June that her album was done, by the way.
"I’m actually done [my new album]," she said during her appearance on the Tonight Show then. "I have to do a few finishing things with it but I’m just relieved. It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album, and it’s just because I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that ‘how was I going to capture that?’ and ‘how was I actually going to feel good about what I was saying?’ So I just kept going, and I’m relieved."
Gomez said genre-wise, the album is mostly pop. "I think there’s always going to be a sense of strong pop in my music, but I definitely explored more with electric guitar, a lot of more soulful tracks underneath things, acoustic guitar, it all kind of hits different places that I feel like is my lane for music," she said. "It’s just, ‘live in that world and mellow.’"
Selena Gomez has been teasing a new album for what seems like forever, but she finally revealed when it's actually dropping. She first teased the news to her Instagram, where she posted a video collage featuring black-and-white photos of different moments in her life to the sounds of her "Look At Me Now" track.
"Something exciting is coming tomorrow ✨," Some of the photos dated back to Selena's childhood. There's a cute one of her posing in a cheerleader uniform. And now those same pictures are the backdrop to her website, which revealed the release date of her new album: January 10, 2020.
Selena also teased that she would unveil the album's cover art, title and track list soon. Though the album won't be out until after the holidays, fans who can't wait to get their hands on SG2 can pre-order it now. Selena called the album "her diary from the past few years."
Selena, who has collaborated with leading sports brand PUMA, did a photoshoot where she could be seen standing on a pile of books. Twitterati slammed Selena for this act, since in Indian culture, books (knowledge) are treated as Goddess Saraswati and worshipped.
Twitterati wrote on that post about how books are considered to be holy in Indian culture. They wrote that according to Indian culture, Goddess Saraswati resides in the books.
Tweeple said that she will be "cursed" by the Goddess for stepping on the books. Check out how Twitterati reacted to her photoshoot.
Taking to the micro-blogging site, a user commented: "I am a librarian and now my eyes are burning."
"She is gorgeous... but please get off those books", added another.
A user tweeted, "One time I was asleep and I touched a book by mistake with my foot. I woke up and took the book's aashirwad coz it's Saraswati before going back to sleep again. How is she standing on books? Paap lagega."
A post read, "Please don't disrespect books, knowledge is sacred, we are suppose to respect it!"
Another wrote, "Books in Hinduism are considered Goddess Saraswati and in Islam the very first verse of the Quran reads 'Among you the Most Generous is Who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not.' You are insulting our composite culture by such advertisements."
Selena Gomez, 27, hadn’t performed on a live TV show for two years until taking the stage at the 2019 American Music Awards on Nov. 24. All eyes were on the singer for her highly anticipated comeback, but unfortunately, not all viewers were so kind while leaving Twitter reviews about Selena’s on-stage dance moves. That’s where the Selenators came in! “@selenagomez was a total queen & proved that she was a great way to open this award show!! #AMAs2019,” one fan tweeted, defending Selena amid the unkind comments, while another Twitter fan raved, “I’m not sure I’ll ever get over this performance from @selenagomez. What an amazing way to open the show! Look at her now!! 💗🎶 #AMAs.”
Other Twitter users jumped in, suggesting that Selena may have been “nervous.” Not only was this her first time dancing for a live TV show since her 2017 AMAs performance to “Wolves,” the tracks Selena performed — “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now” — both carried a strong emotional undercurrent. Thanks to relationship references that weren’t exactly subtle, many were convinced that the songs were post-breakup anthems after Selena broke free from ex Justin Bieber, 25, in early 2018. “It’s been how long since @selenagomez has performed!? I’m sure she was hella nervous singing such personal songs for the first time and we don’t know what she’s going through physically/health wise. I’m not here for the shady tweets ✋,” a third fan tweeted, . A fourth fan noted that “you can’t say that because of one ‘bad’ performance, she wasn’t at her best” because “she was really nervous,” which could “affect” her “dancing moves” — overall, “she has proven many times that she can sing and that she’s a great artist.”
In our humble opinion, Selena commanded the dance floor in that sexy silver bodysuit. Did you see how quick she changed moods (and outfits) from “Lose You To Love Me” to “Look At Her Now”? Selena was nothing but quick on her feet, a sentiment backed up by even more tweets like “IM PROUD OF YOU BABY I LOVE YOU,” which counteracted the not-so-kind tweets like “Yo no shade or anything but HAVE YALL SEEN SELENA GOMEZ DANCING…?!”
