Senate Impeachment Trial Of President Trump - Day 10 | NBC News (Live Stream) The U.S. Senate plunged into President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial with Republicans abruptly abandoning plans to cram opening arguments into two days but solidly rejecting for now Democratic demands for more witnesses to expose what they deem Trump’s “trifecta” of offenses. Trump himself said Wednesday he wants top aides to testify, but qualified that by suggesting there were “national security” concerns to allowing their testimony. “We have a great case,” Trump said at a global economic forum in Davos, Switzerland. In a press conference before returning to Washington, Trump said his legal team was doing a “very good job.” He appeared to break with Republicans efforts to block Democratic motions to immediately call witnesses and subpoena documents. Instead, Trump said he’d like to see aides, including former national security adviser John Bolton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, testify as witnesses

Watch LIVE: Impeachment trial of President Donald Trump day 11 - ABC News Live Coverage
While the questions can be tough, given the spirit of the day, these interviews aren’t always the most rigorous of exercises. But Trump found himself before an exceptionally friendly interviewer this time around, sitting down with Fox News’s Sean Hannity ahead of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
Their conversation was less of an interview than an opportunity for the president to attack his enemies unchecked for just over eight minutes — railing against Democrats who impeached him, making bizarrely incorrect claims about the 2020 Democratic presidential field, and even making height jokes about former New York City mayor of and presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg.
When asked about whether he’d be able to work with Democrats following his impeachment, Trump replied that he wasn’t sure, saying, “I see the hatred — they don’t care about fairness, they don’t care about lying,” a statement that could not be heavier with irony given Trump’s own well documented difficult relationship with the truth.

Watch live coverage of the Senate floor as U.S. senators speak before the final impeachment vote today where President Donald Trump is likely to be acquitted. In a 53-47 vote, President Trump has been acquitted on the second and final charge of obstruction of Congress. The vote was split along party lines. Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who defected to vote along with the Democrats on the first article, voted “not guilty” on the second article. The Senate’s acquittal marks a victory for Trump after a more than four-month long process that he and Republicans have decried as politically motivated and unfair since its start in September. Trump’s acquittal comes the same year he is seeking re-election to the White House for a second term.

The US Senate has voted to acquit President Donald Trump of both impeachment charges he faced. He will not be removed from office. The Senate voted Wednesday afternoon, mostly across party lines, to dismiss the impeachment articles of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Sen. Mitt Romney was the only Republican to join Democrats in voting to remove Trump from office over the abuse of power charge. Romney joined the rest of the Senate’s 52 Republicans in voting against the second charge. Trump was found not guilty of abuse of power on a 52–48 vote and not guilty of obstruction of Congress on a 53–47 vote. Trump's defense team and allies had repeatedly argued the impeachment and removal trial were not bipartisan, seeking to delegitimize the proceedings. Following the vote, Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow said he had "no reaction" to Romney's decision. Asked about the bipartisan nature of the conviction, Sekulow repeatedly said, “It was one vote on one count.”
