During an appearance on Loudwire Nights, Evanescence singer Amy Lee addressed the gear-burning incident from last year's edition of Slipknot's Knotfest Mexico event.
As reported, at the November 30 show, Slipknot and Evanescence were forced to cancel their performances due to safety problems caused by a broken barricade that the staff was not able to fix.
The incident caused a riot, resulting in a number of concertgoers rushing the stage and burning Evanescence's drum kit. Some of the footage is available below.
"When the show - totally pun intended - went up in flames... it's just something that never happened to any of us before. It was just out of everybody's control.
"I feel horrible for the fans... It looks like it was the fans, but it really wasn't the fans' fault. It was just a real mess.
"So everybody was bummed about it, we were upset. Of course, the gear is part of it, but also just being so geared up to play a show and not getting to play the show is a real bummer.
"And we were gonna play 'The Chain' at the show for the first time, we super-rehearsed this cool new thing we were gonna do."
Amy then focused on "The Chain" video, which was recorded shortly after the Knotfest debacle, and which features a burning drum kit, a clear nod to the whole situation. The singer added:
"We were just trying to find a way the next morning [after Knotfest], going to the airport, just to try to find a way to make it good, like, make it work for us, turn it into something that we could use instead of just letting it feel like a big waste.
"A few hours passed, and you're, like, shocked, buy you start making jokes; I'm joking, like, 'We should probably just set the drum set on fire in the video.'
"And I'm laughing and I'm, like, 'We should actually really do that, that would feel really good to do,' to then just say, like, 'Hey, we've been through something together and we made it out on the other side.'
"In our version, what the heart of the song means to me is about: 'We're a band.' Like, we need to band together against anything, like, there's always gonna be things, there are challenges, things that threaten to pull us apart, and we have to stand together and walk through that fire.
"So I just thought it would be a cool way to make that message come to life for the video, and I think it turned out really cool."
