Novak Djokovic again showed he is a match for an Andy Murray challenge - even in a lockdown. The Serbian has had the better of their tennis head-to-head record, even if his 25-11 winning record includes defeats to the Briton in finals of the US Open and Wimbledon. With on-court rivalries on hold while tennis endures a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, Murray looked to add a touch of spice this week when he challenged ATP and WTA stars to take part in a '100-volley challenge'. Murray and wife Kim strung together an impressive century, and on Friday came filmed proof that men's world number one Djokovic had also reached the target with his wife, Jelena. Spending more time than usual at home, the pair donned sports gear in their yard and showed impressive shared skills, before Djokovic appeared to hit their tennis ball over a wall once the hundred volleys were complete. He kissed his wife on the hand, and said: "Thanks Kim, thanks Andy, for challenging us. "If you've got any more challenges, we're here, we're available, we've got all the time in the world, this is the funnest part of the day. See you, guys." On Instagram, where Djokovic posted the video of the volley exchange, the 17-time grand slam winner jokingly described it as "too easy".

Wimbledon 2020 has been called off amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the Championships declare the health care workers to be this year’s champions. Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer addressed the entire tennis fraternity to express their gratitude and cheer for the ‘new champions this summer.’
The heart-warming video in Federer’s narration began by illustrating Wimbledon’s age-old connection with its fans. The Swiss continued to highlight the tradition of the Championships. And then he beautifully crowned the 2020 world champions. The selfless health care workers are fighting against the fatal virus by risking their lives.
“Since 1877, Wimbledon fans have embraced the Championships. We have watched through multiple types of screens. At all hours of the day and night, descended from afar. Even queued… my how you have queued,” Roger Federer said.
“This summer, sadly, we must come together by staying apart. No tents will be pitched, no records broken, no trophies engraved. But as we say thank you for your passion and support, we remind ourselves that countless champions will be crowned.”
“As frontline workers across the globe compete for us, we cheer for them. For now, with play suspended, we are united in the hope that tomorrow will be better than today.”

Wimbledon committee member Tim Henman says the reaction from the rest of tennis has been understanding after they were forced to cancel the tournament. “With Wimbledon being at the start of July, we didn’t think we would have to make a decision until much later,” Henman said. “But it has been so fast-moving. It became clear quite quickly that early postponement or cancellation were the options”. “It is the same for everyone,” Henman said wen asked for Andy Murray’s reaction. “Speaking to other players, someone like Roger Federer coming to the end of his career surely and the opportunity at Wimbledon has been taken away this year. I think he has expressed he is devastated but understands the decision. It will affect a lot of people in a lot of different ways but it is important to keep perspective on it as well. I spoke to Andy, Roger a couple of times and Feliciano Lopez who is involved in the tournament in Madrid. And a few text messages with Tommy Haas. I have spoken to Paul Annacone a lot in the States. Jim Courier as well. It is very challenging times and no-one really knows. We have just got to sit tight, follow the guidelines and stay healthy hopefully and we will get through it. Everyone was 100% understanding. People were beginning to expect the decision. 100% across the board."

Kate lent her voice to a new Wimbledon video shared today, addressing the annual tennis championships' cancellation this year due to the coronavirus. The tournament, meant to commence today, was nixed back in April (for the first time since World War II) as social distancing measures during the global pandemic have discouraged large gatherings and crowded events. To commemorate what would've been the official Wimbledon kickoff, the Duchess of Cambridge narrated a clip about how next year's competition will be "worth the wait." "[We] will bide our time until we sit at the edge of our seats again, and celebrate again," Kate says in the hopeful message to fans, which plays over a montage of Wimbledon highlights. "So when the time is right and we open the gates, we will be back again, and it will have been worth the wait." Wimbledon is an event close to the duchess's heart. As the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which coordinates the competition, she attends the championships every year with her sister, Pippa Middleton; her husband, Prince William; or, as we've seen recently, with her sister-in-law, Duchess Meghan. Perhaps we'll see Kate and other royals back in the stands when Wimbledon returns on June 28, 2021.
