If you see a lot of Princess Diana in Meghan Markle, you're definitely not alone. According to Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, Meghan has a lot in common with the People's Princess—and he thinks that's probably what attracted Prince Harry to her to begin with.
"Harry went for and married Meghan because she's like Diana," Burrell reportedly said during an interview with Closer magazine. "Both women who would always stand up for what they believe in and wouldn't be pushovers."
Even though Burrell thinks Meghan and Diana are similar women, he also said those similarities could have been the cause of some issues between them, if they'd gotten the chance to meet.
"I think, possibly, they would have clashed," he said. "I imagine it would have been two strong, independent women with different views on things—it would have been a battle between Meghan's way and Diana's way."
Burrell, who worked for Diana for 10 years before her tragic death in 1997, doesn't think Meghan is a carbon copy of Diana, of course. He said he thinks Meghan was probably more media savvy going into her royal marriage than Diana was. Diana, he said, had to learn to find her voice in the media.
"I think the main difference between them is that Meghan has a game plan, whereas Diana was young and naive," he added. "Diana did the book with Andrew Morton and courted the press over the years because she didn't have a voice. And her strong-mindedness meant she cared and she felt the people of the country had a right to know what had gone on behind closed doors."

Even when he was a teenager, Princess Diana felt her son Prince William had the makings of a monarch. In November 1995, less than two years before her tragic death, Diana sat down with BBC1 Panorama for her unprecedented interview giving her side of the story about her divorce from Prince Charles — and therefore, her separation from the royal family that played a huge role in the lives of her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. With William, then 13, second in line to the British throne, Martin Bashir asked Diana if she believed her son should succeed Queen Elizabeth as monarch. "Do you think it would make more sense in the light of the marital difficulties that you and the Prince of Wales have had if the position of monarch passed directly to your son Prince William?" he asked. Diana replied, "Well, then you have to see that William's very young at the moment, so do you want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age? So I can't answer that question." Bashir rephrased: "Would it be your wish that when Prince William comes of age that he were to succeed the Queen rather than the current Prince of Wales?" "My wish is that my husband finds peace of mind, and from that follows others things, yes," Princess Diana said.

Many royal experts have speculated Prince William could or even should become King instead of his father. Now it seems even Prince William's mother, Princess Diana, had an opinion on whether the crown should skip a generation. During her November 1995 interview with BBC1's Panorama, Diana was asked by journalist Martin Bashir who she thinks should take the throne. He questioned: "Do you think it would make more sense in the light of the marital difficulties that you and the Prince of Wales have had, if the position of monarch passed directly to your son Prince William?" At the time of the interview Prince William was just 13-years-old. Princess Diana replied: "Well, then you have to see that William's very young at the moment, so do you want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age? "So I can't answer that question." Mr Bashir pressed the princess further on the topic. He asked: "Would it be your wish that when Prince William comes of age that he were to succeed the queen rather than the current Prince of Wales?" Diana said: "My wish is that my husband finds peace of mind, and from that follows others things, yes."

Princess Diana always knew that her oldest son, Prince William, had what it took to be a great king.
In November 1995, the late royal sat down for what would turn out to be an explosive interview with BBC1 Panorama about her divorce from Prince Charles. During the interview Martin Bashir asked Diana if she thought Will, who was 13 at the time, should succeed Queen Elizabeth as the reigning monarch on the British throne. You know, as in instead of his father, Charles.
"Do you think it would make more sense in the light of the marital difficulties that you and the Prince of Wales have had if the position of monarch passed directly to your son Prince William?" Bashir asked.
"Well, then you have to see that William's very young at the moment, so do you want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age? So I can't answer that question," Diana answered, dodging the heart of the question.
"Would it be your wish that when Prince William comes of age that he were to succeed the Queen rather than the current Prince of Wales?" Bashir pressed.
"My wish is that my husband finds peace of mind, and from that follows others things, yes," Diana said.

Prince Harry and Prince William will always come together for one special princess.
On Friday, Aug. 28, the royal brothers united and announced a long-awaited statue to honor Princess Diana will be installed next year on what would have been her 60th birthday.
In a rare joint statement, both Prince Harry and Prince William said the statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on July 1, 2021.
"The statue was commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death and recognize her positive impact in the UK and around the world," the statement read. "The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother's life and her legacy."
Although the design stages of the statue of Princess Diana have progressed, installation has been delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to reports, the princes commissioned Ian Rank-Broadley as the person to create the tribute.
This week's announcement marks the first time the brothers have spoken publicly together since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to Southern California with their 1-year-old son Archie Harrison.
