Talk about timing. Rocker Bret Michaels was the latest celebrity to be revealed on “The Masked Singer” — and it happened to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Poison frontman’s brain hemorrhage that left him in intensive care for nearly two weeks. Michaels, who performed as the Banana on “Masked Singer,” marveled at what he called “the irony, not knowing that these two dates would ever line up on any level, but here it is April 22, and the song selection I chose came down to two songs, and I went with ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’ to sing tonight… Exactly as this show aired is when I was in emergency room, in the operating room, they were operating on my brain. And I’m singing that song. Life is ironic. A moment of surrealness tonight, for sure.” Michaels, whose lengthy unscripted resume includes “Rock of Love” and “Celebrity Apprentice,” said he was game for “Masked Singer” after watching the first two seasons with his kids — and also by himself. “I like to think I’m a real-life boy detective, so I’m always watching detective shows, ‘Forensic Files,'” he said. “And so, there’s part singer, part crazy mask costume, and then part detective work. The show was fun. And last year, [the panelists] had thought I was the Eagle [which wound up being] Dr. Drew. So this season I thought, this is perfect, I’m on tour, so they’ll never think of me doing it. The minute they asked, I was like, if I can make this work, I am in.” As for the difficulty level, Michaels said “it goes up by about 1,000. You’re changing your voice. You’re trying to not do the same leg movements, or hand gestures that you do, so that no one figures it out. You have no peripheral vision. You’re singing through a small hole. And when I say hot, I lost a healthy five pounds in that outfit.” Michaels said he tried to throw off the panelists by wearing a bigger shoe size, changing the height and singing unexpected songs. But ultimately, many fans figured out it was him. “There’s part of you praying that no one discovers you, so you stay longer or until the end,” he said. “And then there’s a part of you that goes, ‘I hope to God after 30 years someone knows who the hell I am.’ You know when they say, not to have a pun, but ‘roses and thorns’? It’s the best of both worlds.” (Yes, Michaels did just inadvertently namecheck his hit “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.”)

You can take the man out of the banana costume—but you can never take away his signature bandana.
On Wednesday night, The Masked Singer revealed that '80s rocker and bandana aficionado Bret Michaels was the man behind the banana costume. Bret's true identity was divulged after he was eliminated following a moving performance of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" in a face-off against Kitty.
The Poison frontman gave an emotional goodbye speech in which he shared that the moment coincidentally also marked the 10th anniversary of the brain hemorrhage that left him fighting for his life.
"The irony, not knowing that these two dates would ever line up on any level, but here it is—April 22—and the song selection I chose came down to two songs, and I went with 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' to sing tonight," he said. "Exactly as this show aired is when I was in emergency room, in the operating room, they were operating on my brain. And I'm singing that song. Life is ironic. A moment of surrealness tonight, for sure."

POISON frontman Bret Michaels has added several "Bandana Banana" merchandise items to his official webstore — just days after he was revealed as the person in the banana costume, one of the contestants on Fox's smash hit "The Masked Singer".
Currently available for purchase are Banana Graphic Socks ($20.00), Bandana Banana Candle Jar ($22.00) and Bandana Banana Graphic Tee ($35.00).
Banana, who had won over the studio audiences and four judges with each of his four performances, returned to the show last Wednesday night (April 22) to perform a version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door".
Michaels said he sang "Knocking On Heaven's Door" on the 10th anniversary of the brain hemorrhage that nearly ended his life. He said it was irony "not knowing that these two dates would ever line up on any level, but here it is April 22, and the song selection I chose came down to two songs, and I went with 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' to sing tonight… Exactly as this show aired is when I was in emergency room. In the operating room, they were operating on my brain."
Guest judge Sharon Osbourne was able to identify Bret almost immediately, telling her fellow panelists "I know his voice so well" and adding that she has known him for 35 years.
Wednesday's episode featured a "Smackdown" round, with Bret losing two head-to-head matches, the first to the Rhino and the second to the Kitty.
Asked if the banana costume was heavy to carry around, Michaels told Entertainment Weekly: "Everyone worked hard on it because I'm slightly claustrophobic. I shouldn't say slightly — I'm very claustrophobic. I'm a freestyle, free-range kind of guy. I like to keep moving and they helped me build on that. I didn't have a lot of peripheral vision. But I said, you know what? Let's let this rip. I'm going to give it everything this banana's got. Let's go out there and have some fun doing this."

Less than a week after his official unmasking as the Banana on The Masked Singer, Bret Michaels has launched a banana-themed merch line.
Michaels was found out on April 22 after he was eliminated from the show following two head-to-head losses.
AltPress reported last week that Poison‘s Bret Michael’s had been unmasked on The Masked Singer. While other judges struggled to guess the identity of the rock icon, Sharon Osbourne immediately recognized Michaels for his voice.
Seeing as how Sharon Osbourne has been around rock and roll with her husband Ozzy Osbourne for four decades, she was definitely the best person for the job.
Michaels’ won over the hearts of the audience week by week with his performances of Elvis Presley‘s “A Little Less Conversation,” Billy Ray Cyrus‘ “Achy Breaky Heart” and Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me.”
Unfortunately, his time had to come to an end and his incredible performance of Bob Dylan‘s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” on the 10-year anniversary of his brain hemorrhage survival made it very cool.

Hunter Hayes is no longer “Wanted” on “The Masked Singer.” The country singer was the latest star to be unmasked on the hit Fox reality competition series, having been disguised as the Astronaut. For his final performance, Hayes performed “Story of My Life” by One Direction on Wednesday night’s episode. Hayes told Variety that he took the “Masked Singer” gig because, coincidentally, his next album — the second in his “Wild Blue” trilogy — will focus on themes of “the unknown and embracing the unknown.” “It was a great chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things in a safe place — even though it airs on national TV,” Hayes said. “I think being behind a mask gave me confidence and gave me the chance to really push myself.” Hayes said he was offered both the Robot and Astronaut costumes, but chose the Astronaut because flying is a frequent reference in his music. “When we saw the Astronaut, it was as if they tailored this mask, based on my current story,” he said. “Especially when I saw it in person and started working in the suit, it definitely felt like an extension of me, more than a costume. Other than the fact that it was very challenging to move in and breathe in.” Indeed, Hayes said the costume was probably easier to maneuver than some of his celebrity competitors’ outfits, but nonetheless the reflection of the metallic Astronaut costume and its rigidness made it difficult at times. “The only real challenge was learning how to overcome that threshold and continue pushing what I thought the suit could do or I could do in a suit,” he said. “It was very hot, it was a giant heater. The lady that was helping me in and out of my suit every day, told me that every time she would take the backpack off, there was a steam coming from the suit.” Hayes also said the secrecy of the show also presented a challenge. “I had it easy, because I was meant to be in LA, and all my friends and family and colleagues knew that I was in LA working on an album,” he said. “I kind of lived this sort of double life, I would get up super early in the morning, we’d go and rehearse and then then I’d get back home right around the time that I would normally wake up.” As for the panel guesses, Nicole Scherzinger got it right with Hayes, partly because she remembered performing with him at a July 4 event in Washington, D.C. Guest panelist Gordon Ramsay and Robin Thicke thought it was Jonathan Taylor Thomas, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Ben Platt. Ken Jeong chose Skylar Astin, who was Scherzinger’s original guess. “It was all over the map,” Hayes said of the panel’s guesses throughout the season. “I was flattered by a lot of them because they were these triple threat people who can dance, sing and act. But every episode there was something that was just outrageous. The one that sticks out the most is Eddie Vedder. That that was the most entertaining part.”
