America’s Got Talent has already been wildly unpredictable this year, in more ways than one, so of course the first live results show of Season 15 was no exception. While obvious early favorites like soul singer Archie Williams, country diva Shaquira McGrath, child prodigy Roberta Battaglia, and danger magician Brett Loudermilk advanced via the public vote, when it came time for judges to save a fifth quarterfinalist, that’s when Wednesday’s episode took a shocking turn. It all came down to tween ukulele virtuoso Feng-E (teleconferencing from his home country of Taiwan, due to COVID-related travel restrictions) and sassy singing sisters Double Dragon. And it seemed that the former — who’d been dubbed the “Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele” by the judges the night before, after jamming on an impressive “Smoke on the Water”/“Seven Nation Army” mashup — couldn’t lose. While guest judge Kelly Clarkson (filling in for the injured Simon Cowell) went with Feng-E — “I think you're so rock 'n' roll, and I want to see more of you,” she told him — the other panelists unexpectedly doubled down on Double Dragon. “I love the two of you because you have so much energy, and I want to be part of your gang,” raved Heidi Klum. “I have a little soft spot for these Latina girls,” explained Sofia Vergara. And then Howie Mandel cast the deciding vote that clinched the personality-plus twins a spot in the semifinals. (Along with Feng-E, the night’s other, less surprising eliminated contestants were TV host-turned-comedian Michael Yo, father/daughter daredevil duo Bello & Annaliese Nock, hip-hop bone-breaker FrenchieBabyy, animal act Pork Chop Revue, and child ballroom dancers Simon & Maria.) Based on the tweets that ensued, most viewers seemed to side with dissenting voter Kelly in this instance.

An ‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant brought the show’s judges to their feet Tuesday night during her performance of “Hallelujah.”
Christina Rae,30, previously received the Golden Buzzer on the show from Judge Heidi Klum.
After her performance Tuesday night, judge Howie Mandell and the other judges told her it was “flawless.”
“That instrument,” he said. “You did it with such ease and that range of notes. I can’t think of a better way to end what I believe so far is the most spectacular evening that we’ve had on season 15.”

Like they said, and like those who came before them said, BTS indeed lit it up during their performance of “Dynamite” on America’s Got Talent. The K-pop seven-piece joined the talent-competition show on September 16 to perform their No. 1 hit from an empty amusement park.
The setting gave them more than enough room to show off their dancing and more than enough things to, well, light up (including this writer’s heart when Jimin and Jungkook put their arms around each other). We’d certainly call that talent. BTS previously debuted “Dynamite,” the group’s first all-English track, at the Video Music Awards in August, where the boys also took home four awards.

The winner of Season 15 of America's Got Talent has been crowned! The votes are in, and the America's Got Talent winner of season 15 is Brandon Leake. After being declared the next AGT champion, Brandon was overcome with emotions. "This is a huge win for the spoken-word community," Brandon said on Wednesday, according to USA Today. "For an art form that has not been on the main stream ever to have a chance to win America's Got Talent is bigger than anything." The road to Brandon's victory certainly wasn't easy. Brandon earned his win after competing against season 15 finalists Archie Williams, Alan Silva, Roberta Battaglia, Cristina Rae, Daneliya Tuleshova, BAD Salsa, the Bello Sisters, Kenadi Dodds, and Broken Roots. But in the end, Brandon triumphed, and as host Terry Crews proudly announced, Brandon will now get to enjoy a $1 million prize. That said, the $1 million prize isn't all that it's cracked up to be. There's no giant check presented or suitcase full of cash immediately handed over to the winner of AGT. At the end of each episode, AGT viewers will notice a disclaimer that explains that the "$1,000,000 is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity." Long story short, while it's possible Brandon can become a millionaire by using AGT's exposure to jumpstart his career, winning the show alone doesn't always do the trick. Forbes did the math on the prize back in 2011 and concluded that if a contestant opted for the first option of receiving payouts over 40 years, that means they could only receive about $25,000 a year (and that's before taxes). Otherwise, the outlet said if the winner opted to receive the "present cash value," they'd only get about $300,000 before taxes. The two choices present options for contestants of different ages — a winner under 18, for example, may find the 40-year payout to be better for them, whereas an older adult may prefer the lump sum. Either way, both don't equate to $1 million, according to this analysis. Of course, contestants wouldn't join the NBC series if they didn't think it would benefit their career in some way. Given America's Got Talent's insane popularity, it's arguable that getting the performer's name out there is much more important than the prize itself. For instance, season 14 winner Kodi Lee signed an album deal with Columbia Records/Syco after becoming the champion last summer. Meanwhile, 2016 winner Grace Vanderwaal sold out her headlining tours and even landed a role in Disney's Stargirl.

Blake Shelton and Broken Roots performed the hit single “God’s Country” during Wednesday (Sept. 23) evening’s America’s Got Talent Season 15 finale.

The extraordinary collaborative performance took place on a rooftop overlooking a city, kicking off with Broken Roots with the opening notes before Shelton joined the duo to sing the chorus and finish out the song with the country duo.
“God’s Country” was co-written by Michael Hardy alongside Devin Dawson and Jordan Schmidt.
Other performances during the finale included the Detroit Youth Choir, Usher, Ryan Tedder, Ava Max, Bishop Briggs, and JP Saxe & Julia Michaels. Special guest David Dobrik also appeared.
