If you just can't wait until Friday (June 26) to hear Selena Gomez's collab with Trevor Daniel on a remix of his song "Past Life," check out a short Q&A session the pair posted on Thursday (June 25). In the 30-second socially distanced chat, the "Falling" star opens by telling Gomez how much he loves her take on the track, thanking her for blessing the remix.
"When I heard the song the first time, I loved the fact that it was kind of like a story about all the things that we tend to hold onto and the patterns that we have," Gomez says when asked what "Past Life" means to her. "And I'm very, very vocal about my personal experiences making decisions that aren't necessarily healthy for me."
For a song that's so serious, Gomez says the melancholy R&B track from Daniel's debut album, Nicotine, is also very beautiful. The unlikely collab came after Daniel posted a mirror selfie wearing Gomez's merch on June 20, and she reposted it on her Instagram story, leading fans to speculate that it meant the two had a song in the works.

Selena Gomez's album Rare isn't the only music the singer is giving fans this year. Gomez joined Trevor Daniel on the remix of his track "Past Life"; the lyrics explore letting go of who you were in the past, taking care of your mental health, and promising to be better to people you used—all while accepting you cannot erase the journey you've been on. Gomez spoke with Daniel about why the song resonated with her. “When I heard the song the first time, I loved the fact that it was kind of like a story about all the things that we tend to hold onto and the patterns that we have,” she said. “And I’m very, very vocal about my personal experiences making decisions that maybe aren’t necessarily healthy for me.” This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. Gomez may be referring to her past relationship with Justin Bieber, which she discussed during her interview with NPR in January. Reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro asked if getting over Bieber and that relationship was one of the harder parts of Gomez's life. "No, because I've found the strength in it," Gomez responded. "It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse—" "You mean emotional abuse?" Garcia-Navarro asked. "Yes, and I think that it's something that—I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible."

Selena appeared on the Animal Talking with Gary Whitta live-stream show and explained that a collab with Taylor is a real possibility. "I've always dreamt of doing a song with Taylor," she said. "We both wanted to do that. It just feels like we’re family. I've know her for 13 or 14 years now. She's been my best friend. But we've talked about it for sure." They've been performing together since Taylor's 2010 album, Speak Now. Selena frequently makes appearances on her bestie's tours and they usually sing a song or two together. It's always amazing and fun and feels like a peek into their more than a decade-long friendship. Obviously, Swifties and Selenators would support a collab from the two artists. And the collab might come than we think since Selena announced that she's already working on a new album despite her recent Rare release. "It’s funny because I already feel like I’ve been working on the new album," she said. "But I’m so proud of what we did. Oh no, I’m not sure if I was supposed to say that."
