"We were very happy with how the competition concluded," said Weaver. "We were very calm in our free dance and although it's new and fresh and early in the season we were able to put out a solid performance. "This is a program that is more difficult than what we've done in the past. It requires harder training and harder concentration and we are glad to see we are going in the right direction." Russians Anna Yanovskaya and Sergey Mozgov won the event with 152.00 points. Bent and MacKeen, who first after the short dance, were next with 144.51. Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin of Ukraine were third with 128.59.

Canadian Olympian Kaetlyn Osmond will miss the fall figure skating season with a broken right leg. The 18-year-old from Marystown, N.L., underwent surgery on Friday at Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton. She was hurt during a practice session when she swerved around another skater and fell, fracturing the fibula in her leg. Osmond, a two-time Canadian women’s champion who finished 13th at the Sochi Games, will be sidelined for at least six weeks and has withdrawn from Skate Canada and Trophee Eric Bompard on the Grand Prix circuit. She still hopes to defend her Canadian title early next year. “I really appreciate all the support I’ve received from our medical team at Skate Canada and at Misericordia,” Osmond said Monday in a statement. “I’m obviously disappointed to miss the early part of the skating season, but I will look forward to getting back onto the ice and training again. I certainly hope to be competing in Kingston at the Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in January.”
