The awards show is set to air live from Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center on Aug. 30, with performances from iconic locations in each of New York's five boroughs. MTV on Tuesday announced the first three performers for the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards: BTS, Doja Cat and J Balvin. BTS’ performance will mark their first ever at MTV’s VMAs. For the event, the K-pop superstars — including band members RM, Suga, V, J-Hope, Jin, Jingkook and Jimin — will give the live TV debut of their new single “Dynamite, which is scheduled for an Aug. 21 release. The septet is nominated for awards in three categories this year for their epic “On” visual: best pop, best K-pop and best choreography. Doja Cat — who catapulted into mainstream stardom this year with her viral hit “Say So” — is nominated in three categories as well, including song of the year, best new artist and best direction. Meanwhile, J Balvin earned four noms, including three in the best Latin category and another for best collaboration. The show — which will feature performances from iconic locations in each of New York’s five boroughs — is designed “to honor the spirit and resilience” of the city hit significantly hard by the novel coronavirus pandemic this spring. According to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, elements taking place at Barclays Center will include a “limited” audience or none at all. The VMAs will be the first event of its kind to take place at the Brooklyn arena after the spread of COVID-19 forced live-entertainment venues to close in New York. The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Having spent the majority of quarantine at her mother Yolanda Hadid's farm in Pennsylvania, Bella is currently in New York where her sister, Gigi Hadid, intends to give birth. While the family awaits its newest arrival, Bella is taking part in this year's MTV VMAs, and was seen heading to rehearsals on Friday. The model looked stunning in a sheer cut-out bodysuit by Albanian designer Nensi Dojaka, part of an exclusive collection for SSENSE. A thin strap of fabric across the bodice preserved the model's dignity, and Bella paired the revealing top with pleated wool trousers by the designer. She completed the outfit with BY FAR's PF20 "Gina" chain sandals. Hadid revealed on Instagram that her outfit had been styled by Carlos Nazario. According to DailyMail.com, an insider at the MTV VMAs reportedly revealed that Bella crossed paths with her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd, at rehearsals for the show. Per the insider, "They played it cool and crossed paths with each other, same place, same time," and allegedly seemed to be on "good terms."

When reggaeton star Maluma hits the stage at the 2020 VMAs Sunday, it won’t be the way he planned. “I wanted to get to the performance riding a bull, and they told me that I couldn’t do it because of the coronavirus,” he told The Post. “I wanted to bring, like, 20 dancers, and we couldn’t. I wanted to bring my whole tech team, but I couldn’t. It’s been kind of difficult because I had so many ideas to do in the show. We cannot become too creative, but I understand that these times are difficult.” As the first major live awards show being staged in the COVID-19 era, MTV’s 2020 edition of the Video Music Awards will set the standard for the future. And details of the production, which will feature performances by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus and more, have been very hush-hush. Keke Palmer, star of “Hustlers,” will be hosting, and she’s making history as the first woman of color to take the reins of the awards show. While it is known that the VMAs will happen at various outdoor locations (with no or limited audience) around the city — along with remote performances from Los Angeles and, for K-pop sensations BTS, South Korea — exactly where those locations are is pretty much classified info. “I’ve never seen it so secretive. People are just so nervous about talking about it,” said Dave Brooks, Billboard Senior Director, Live & Touring. “But you might think, ‘Why put yourself out there more than you have to in case something goes wrong?’”
