Miley Cyrus is coming in like a wrecking ball again as a late addition to the performers for the 2020 MTV VMAs.
Cyrus, whose video for “Mother’s Daughter” is up for best art direction and best editing awards, will perform her new single, “Midnight Sky,” during the show on Aug. 30, it was announced Monday.
MTV’s Video Music Awards ceremony, hosted by Keke Palmer, will also include performances by Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, BTS, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Maluma and Roddy Ricch.
At 2019’s VMAs, the now-27-year-old Cyrus sang her breakup ballad “Slide Away,” just days after splitting from longtime squeeze Liam Hemsworth, 30, whom Cyrus recently said was the first “dude” she went “all the way with” when she was 16.

Miley Cyrus released the new single “Midnight Sky” on Aug. 14. She says she’s working on a new album too, one that will take her singing career in different directions. Cyrus may have gotten a little carried away when she presented this idea to her team of managers and producers. http://instagram.com/p/CDhBVuXJ95e ‘Midnight Sky’ does not represent the new Miley Cyrus album “Midnight Sky” is Cyrus’s first single in a year, since “Slide Away.” It sounds a bit more like a traditional Miley Cyrus song, but Cyrus reminds listeners she’s always mixed it up. “I think something that’s been really, really important when I’m talking about this song and talking about this record, this is not a new idea,” Cyrus told Sang. “If we look at my career as an entirety, there’s always that kind of punk rock provocateur. Me making this record, this is one of the songs that I feel like is slightly more mainstream pop." http://instagram.com/p/CD_xImzJvHL What to expect from Miley Cyrus’s next album Cyrus said she’s trying some new things on the upcoming album. She did not say when it might be finished though. “The record actually goes full on Wendy O Williams Plasmatics,” Cyrus said. “It goes there. I was really just thinking about that and thinking about how this isn’t a new idea and this is just something that I’ve accepted.” Cyrus’s last studio album was 2017’s Younger Now. It’s time for new Miley Cyrus music, but Cyrus took a firm stance with her team. “I’ve actually used making this record as a threat to my team at one point,” Cyrus said. “After the last record I was like, ‘Listen, I’m going to try pop one more time and if I feel like I just can’t sleep at night with it, I’m going to make a rock record.’” To her surprise, everyone on Team Cyrus encouraged her. “They were like, ‘Well, why are you waiting? You never wait. Just do it.’” Cyrus said. “So I was like, ‘You’re right. I don’t know why I’m threatening you with a record that feels like the right next step to me. I just thought again I should keep going with pop and going with what I know but that’s not who I am.’ Again, I just went and started making a rock record.”

Miley Cyrus has confirmed the title of a new collaboration with Mark Ronson on her next project.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on the first episode of Apple Music’s ‘Essential Radio’ yesterday (August 19), Cyrus confirmed one of their new collaborations will be called ‘High’.
Speaking about the track, Cyrus said: “I have a song on my record actually with Mark [Ronson] called ‘High’, and it’s like, even though I don’t get high anymore, I still get high, because what I do constantly gets me high.”
Cyrus returned with new music ‘Midnight Sky’ last week (August 14).
It followed on from a pair of singles that Cyrus released last year – ‘Mother’s Daughter’ in June and ‘Slide Away’ in August.
While she’s yet to announce an official release date for her upcoming project, Cyrus has been teasing her seventh studio album – ‘She Is Miley Cyrus’ – for some time, recently telling fans to prepare to “meet Miley Cyrus… again.”

Miley Cyrus is a boss. She knows it, you know it. But even she couldn't deny that swapping in her godmother Dolly Parton's face into her "Midnight Sky" video using the Reface App. "When your godmother @dollyparton looks better in your own video than yo do," Miley wrote in a sweet tweet in which the 74-year-old country icon was reborn in a black Chanel catsuit.
And once she went down that rabbit hole, Miley, 27, just couldn't stop. She spent most of Wednesday (Aug. 26) reposting more than a dozen amazing Reface versions of the video, featuring men and women -- including fan-made edits with Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Joan Jett, Blackpink, Anitta and Selena Gomez -- taking on her latest banger, with the results ranging from amazing to kind of frightening.
"Midnight Sky" topped last week's fan-voted Billboard new music poll, with the first single from her forthcoming album, She is Miley Cyrus, taking nearly half the votes, beating out new music by Dua Lipa, SuperM, Drake featuring Lil Durk, and Kane Brown, among others.

http://instagram.com/p/CEAv8s1pepG Though she had attended the award show as a nominee and a presenter in years prior, Cyrus made her MTV VMAs performance debut in 2013. First, she sang her song, “We Can’t Stop.” Then, she stripped down, and singer Robin Thicke joined her onstage for his song “Blurred Lines,” in what quickly became the most-talked-about moment of the night. The impact of Cyrus’ performance impact was felt everywhere. Many parents of children who adored the entertainer for her role in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana were outraged, and Cyrus discovered she has a robust platform on which she can make a difference. Meanwhile, MTV learned that the singer is a big draw for the VMAs. Cyrus attended the VMAs in 2014, where she received the top prize: Video of the Year for her single “Wrecking Ball.” But she didn’t return as a performer until the next year when she took the event by storm as host. Cyrus had multiple costume changes and more viral moments, including her exchange with Nicki Minaj. In addition to all of the above, the artist closed out the night with a previously unheard song, “Dooo It!” This performance was even bigger than her 2013 one, and featured the band The Flaming Lips and contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Cyrus also announced her latest album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, was free online. Cyrus has performed at the MTV VMAs twice since her hosting gig. She sang the title track and second single off her album Younger Now at the 2017 award show. While still a very colorful performance (in more ways than one), it marked a decidedly different phase of her career, as she leaned into her country roots. http://instagram.com/p/CEZdhkIJVFv Then, in 2019, Cyrus skipped the theatrics. She attended as a nominee, but, at the last minute, MTV announced that the singer would perform her standalone single, “Slide Away,” which she dropped just days earlier. Cyrus ditched her usual dancers and colors for a soulful vocal performance. At this year’s event, Cyrus will again take on a recently released single. On August 14, the artist dropped her first solo song since “Slide Away,” titled “Midnight Sky.” And if the flashy music video for the disco-pop track means anything, her VMAs performance will be a return to form. Cyrus has been open about doing things differently this time around, and the sheer fact that she’s performing at the 2020 VMAs is proof of that. There’s a pattern above: She’s performed every other year in service of an upcoming album. Cyrus breaks that this year with “Midnight Sky.”
