Students across Michigan are taking the new M-Step standardized testing, but teachers at one Mid-Michigan school took a fun approach to help calm the nerves of students. They put on brightly colored wigs and costumes and offered some helpful hints to Taylor Swift's Shake it Off. Chatfield School counselor Elizabeth Kress had the idea.
“I was listening to Taylor Swift's song and decided I could write some lyrics to it. So I came in after the weekend and said, 'Hey guys, I have some lyrics for us.' And they were kind of surprised and laughed. I said, 'No, I'm serious,'" Kress said. The Lapeer County teachers filmed the video at the school and premiered it for students over announcements.
Teacher Karly LaFarge said it was a lot of fun. “Just watching everyone change their wigs and try on different outfits was just hilarious," LaFarge said. And while the video is going viral, it's more than just fun. The teachers snuck in helpful hints for taking the test, such as getting enough sleep and having healthy snacks.
I feel like everyone gets one chance in their life to summon a celebrity by sheer force of will, and I’m choosing my moment right now: TAYLOR SWIFT, WHEREVER YOU ARE, YOU NEED TO SEE THIS. If my caps lock was not enough to summon you, then maybe the rest of my heartfelt plea will be. As all hardcore book lovers know, this week is National Library Week, and the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library’s “Shake It Off” parody called “Check It Out” is hands-down the fiercest celebration we’ve seen so far.
Of course, if anything in the world is worth celebrating with this much gusto, it’s National Library Week. It may have been awhile since the last time you graced a library with your presence, but this video is a reminder of all the beautiful nostalgia of the library-ing of your youth, and just how handy libraries still are today. Guys, why are we spending money on things?! In the words of my new best friends in Topeka and Shawnee County, “#CheckItOut” instead.
She starred in the animation of The Lorax a few years ago, and has a song called “Stay”.
One lucky 7-year-old got to shake it off with Taylor Swift Monday night: In a video on Swift’s Instagram feed, the pop star dances alongside Dylan Barnes, who enthusiastically performed “Shake It Off” in a video that went viral — and got Ellen DeGeneres’ attention.
DeGeneres had Barnes on her show last week, where he talked about how he’s been dancing for two years before breaking into a live performance of “Shake It Off.” Then he got to show off his moves with Swift herself days later: “Finally got to meet Dylan, the 7-year-old who passionately danced to Shake It Off on Ellen,” Swift captioned the Instagram video. “And this happened.”
Joel Cross, an artist whose voice has been described soulful and appears on Youtube as “Skuitarist,” was at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on Saturday and decided to take on Swift’s iconic song “Shake It Off.”
He prefaced the video by saying that he wasn’t necessarily used to doing covers of Taylor Swift, but launched into a calming, soothing take on the singer’s first single from her hit 1989 that took the pop song into new territory. Think Sunday morning, coffee shop, zen-like soundtrack.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Flu Fighters team has added to the litany of “Shake It Off” parodies with their flu prevention video.
The nurses, doctors, and staff all sung flu-related lyrics to the tune of T-Swizzle’s hit, the video shows them dancing around the building to spread the message about flu season.
The four minute video focuses on hygiene, getting vaccinated, using sanitizer, and encouraging you to wash your hands regularly—and then shake them off, shake them off.
